Electricity

Posted on August 6, 2022August 6, 2022

For months, I’ve had no electricity in my studio. We thought the old wiring had given up the ghost, and we were going to need an electrician to figure out the problem. We will be having some visitors staying there during hunting season, so while I might be able to skate by, they would need electricity!

Enter the rancher’s go-to machinery… a tractor and loader! Vernon tested it and decided we needed just a smidge more height…

That was easily remedied by stabbing a bale and raising it to the necessary height. Brandon is our designated electrician…

He worked on the pole… seeing the end of a wire was almost broken off.

When breakers and switches were flipped, I still had no power. Daniel wondered about the fuse box inside the studio. Hmmmm. Where was it? Surely I hadn’t covered it up with the tongue and groove? I rechecked the outside wires, and returned inside to pull off a picture frame. There lay my fuse box, not covered by my wood siding. Reset and repowered, I was in business once again.

Big thanks to my three guys… I snuggled myself in my lighted studio and crafted away a rainy afternoon! A wonderful thing is electricity!

Reading your article, I was drawn into the exploration of the significance of electricity in their rural lifestyle. The vivid descriptions and personal anecdotes painted a picture of the practical challenges and profound moments associated with living off the grid. Through storytelling and reflection, the article conveyed a deep appreciation for the power and importance of electricity in modern life, while also acknowledging the simplicity and connection to nature that comes with living without it. As I journeyed through the author’s experiences, I felt a renewed sense of gratitude for the conveniences of modern technology, as well as a longing for the simplicity and self-reliance found in a more rustic way of life.
