Late morning found us on the mountain pasture, gathering cattle for weaning and preg testing. As we decided which way various kids and adults were riding, I voted for riding the top of the ”Bar C” since I hadn’t ridden up there for years. You can’t hardly beat the view… except the Idaho smoke was rotten.
I also found that Milo had lost his front shoes and while he was ok on dirt, he was soooooo tenderfooted on rocks… and most of the Bar C Ridge looks like this.
Believe me, we picked our way gingerly around these outcroppings! I felt sorry for him. I managed to avoid most of the rocks once we were off the top of the ridge.
I ran into the littlest cowgirl. Please notice her chinks/work pants… they look super cute!
And, yes, her brother and sister were there as well… skipping school for cow work is not unusual in this country! The life skills and knowledge they absorb through this work is impressive. It worked for my kids… and so long as there’s good grades at school, these kiddos can ride the top of the mountain with me any day.

Practical learning and responsibility are always the best as long as the basics are accounted for via good grades.
Sounds like a perfect day, to me! Things are “in the pink” for one little cowgirl…spurs, too!
She is too cute! What a bunch of lucky kids! They are learning so much indeed the rewards of hard work!
