#TBT: Good Thing, v.2.0

Posted on October 13, 2022

This was first posted October 17, 2011.

Vernon and Daniel pulled the irrigation dams partially out of the creek yesterday.  It wasn’t exactly swimming weather, but it needed to be done, so they crawled out on the big dam log and started pulling sticks, letting the water flow unimpeded downstream.

A tractor is a big part of this job because it pulls the dam log(s) out of the creek entirely.

Simple really.

Until they looked up and the tractor tire was going flat.

Flat tractor tires = unhappy ranchers.

It’s not like you can whip out a tire patch kit and fix it like we’d repair our bike tubes!  Tractor tires are often filled with fluid… calcium chloride… for weight, and my guys would just as soon take it to the pros in town rather than drain the fluid, find the hole, see if it can be repaired /or/ just buy a new one.

Just.

Choke.

Have you priced tractor tires lately?

Choke/cough.

Anyway, that was Daniel’s and my assignment for the day… we ended up hauling three tires to town to get worked on.

And they didn’t get them done.

That means someone has to go back tomorrow.

I’m sitting on my hands and NOT volunteering.

Then I had a meeting, and met with some friends, and put up groceries… and guess what?

No Popcorn tonight to go with No Movie.

ugh.

Maybe tomorrow?

I did find you some entertainment, though…

Coming down the mountain, this ol’ cow worked up a Mighty Thirst.  She was NOT going to leave this spring until she’d gotten her fill of water.  She wasn’t going to settle for the ucky muddy pond, either!  She was gonna have some Pure Rocky Mountain Spring water straight out of the pipe.

thirsty

She kept an eye on me… seeing how close I’d have to get before she’d HAVE to leave.

She made me laugh instead of making me mad… and so, of course, I pulled out my camera.

What a goose!

Good thing that pipe wasn’t FROZEN.

That cow is a water connoisseur. The thought of the pipe being frozen is funny, but then it might not have water coming out!
