Ice, Ice, Baby

Posted on January 3, 2023

As most of Wyoming is digging out from a nice dose of snow, the storm, once again, missed us, giving us two inches the past couple of days. Not that I wanted more, but I’d prefer snow any day over ice.

The trip to my chicken coop is a hazardous walk twice a day.

Thank goodness for ice cleats…

Hiking poles…

Plus I chopped on the ice and added grass, sticks, sawdust, and pine branches for added traction on the worse bits. Ashes from my wood stove will be next.

Believe me when I say six inches of snow would have covered this completely and safely… but two inches just hides the ice… even the dogs have trouble staying up on four legs! There is one good thing, I suppose…

Quinlan had a blast riding my runner sled!

Good to see you have equipment to keep you safe and upright. I remember snow that melted during the day, then froze overnight and the bit of snow to hide the ice. Still we managed to walk to school. It was the early 60’s so my feet were a lot, lot younger and more stable!!!!!

Yes, indeed…I’ll take snow over ice any day! (and we DO get lots of snow here in W.N.Y) Looks like you’ve got the right equipment to walk to the hen house!

Brings back memories of my childhood. Had a sled just like that. Enjoy Quinlan
