Spy Cam

Posted on March 6, 2023

The heifers are finally in calving mode, so I went down to help out a bit. Cleaning pens and helping Brandon and hauling food and water are my basic chores. We thought they’d keep on with busy activities so Vernon and I stayed home from the little girls’ basketball game tonight and let the parents go. Only one decided to calve. Vernon went to tend her and I stayed at home and spied on him.

Headlights arrive at the corral… (to the left)

Vernon spreads out the straw in the clean pen.

Blurry Vernon enters to big pen to retrieve the heifer and her calf. Leaving the calf in here would be dangerous as some other heifer might step or lay on it… or another heifer might try to steal it.

Vernon drags the calf to its new pen followed by a concerned mother.

You’ll have to trust me that Vernon penned the calf and mother… it’s refusing to take my last photos. Of course it is.
Still… pretty cool I can be a couch potato and see what’s going on through the spy cam!

And you can enjoy a nice cup o’ coffee in one of your own special mugs that you’ve made, while you check on the monitor and keep warm!

Wonderful that you can keep watch in the warm but be ready to go in if help is needed.

That is pretty cool! Thanks to technology you don’t have to “camp out” with the heifer’s
