Those of you who follow me on Facebook will have seen this already, but I know many of you aren’t on the Book of Face… so here ‘tis.
I was contacted by Shannon Rollins and she asked permission to use a few of my Spring Creek Raid photographs in a video she and her husband, Kent Rollins, were posting on their social media. Remember when they came to the Ten Sleep Library this summer? If not, here’s a quick video I made of the event. Cowboy cooking is their specialty, and I believe it was one of the biggest crowds we have ever had at the library. You can watch them on YouTube.
Well, they also do other things besides chuck wagon culinary, and they were going to post a story about the Spring Creek Raid. We can be a little thin skinned about that topic… the Greet Brothers, Fred and Frank, were witnesses to the Raid. Frank was Johnny’s father. One of the Raiders was Milton Alexander, Oneta’s grandfather. (Oneta was Vernon’s mother). She would immediately tell you that Milton was pardoned by the governor and indeed, he returned to Ten Sleep and later became a Deputy Sheriff. This was not “history” to John and Oneta. It was experiences lived by close relatives with ramifications that spanned generations and practically tore the community apart. They don’t tell you those things in history books. In short, I was a bit cautious.
Their video is basically a local historian telling the story of the Raid. Clay Gibbons gets things right and doesn’t exaggerate one side or the other. My initial post was here. For those who haven’t been following me for so long… you may remember the Field Trip post with Jaxon’s class. After previewing the video, I did give them permission to use my few photos from the reenactment. You can watch their video here. I’d like to thank them for asking permission to use my photos, it’s the courteous way to do business, but not everyone is so well behaved these days!

Very interesting history thanks for the link.
This video was very well-done and thoroughly enjoyable. It’s nice that some of your photos were included, too.
