Some of you were asking about my finished diamond dot “painting” the other day.

This popular craft is much like the paint by number art we did as kids. The sheet comes with the pattern stamped on a sticky surface covered with a plastic sheet. For those of you who cross stitch, this will be a very familiar style of pattern. In fact, if you make a copy of the pattern, the floss numbers are listed on the side.

As you can see, the dots are faceted on one side and flat on the other.

The pink “pen” has the option of applying one dot or four dots at a time. The tip is hollow and is inserted into the pink wax. The minuscule bit of wax will pick up the faceted side of the dot and the sticky paper is stronger so that it holds the dot. Dots are poured out on to the tray, picked up with the wax pen, then placed on their corresponding code letter. Repeat. And repeat. And repeat.
It is actually enjoyable if you’re stuck inside with a bum knee! It doesn’t allow for any creativity, simply repetitive motion, but it can be soothing.
We have done stickers and bookmarks with kids at the library, and they’ve caught on to the technique quite easily. Posters like this 13”x13” are pretty inexpensive… $10-$17. The kits come with the tool, wax, and tray. I do use a light table to help see the code. I’d recommend it for those of you looking for a different craft. I’ve bought mine off Amazon, just search for diamond dot, dotz, or diamond art.

Thanks for the explanation. When my life settles down, I may give it a try.
It does sound soothing, and easier on the fingers than tiny needlework.
Thanks for explaining it. Very eye-catching and unique.
