So many of the old photos I’m going through are those of the Greet family. Not near as many belong to Vernon’s mother’s family, the Alexanders. I know very little about them other than Milton Alexander was caught up in the Spring Creek Raid as one of the “raiders” on that unfortunate night. After being sent to prison for a wile, he was pardoned by the governor and returned to Ten Sleep. If memory serves, I think later he served as Sheriff.
He, his wife and two boys were living five miles north of where my house currently is in 1909 when the Raid happened. I am not sure if Milton homesteaded that place or bought from someone and I am not sure who he sold it to. For years and years we leased that place since it was right next to our home place. Locals will know it as the Cogdill place or Christopherson’s.
The ridge is recognizable in the pic, but it is even better in this one.
Roy Alexander is on the left and Guy Alexander is on the right. Guy would become Vernon’s grandfather. If I had seen this photo while we leased this place, I could have recreated the scene in the exact spot with Guy’s great great grandsons.
I have many more photos of Guy as an adult, but I’m hoping to find more of Milton and maybe more of their ranch back in the day.
