I helped Brandon for just a bit. He’s installing a probe that will measure how much water is put on the field under the pivot. It takes a measurement once an hour. The first step was figuring out placement. We discussed where a tractor could avoid it, where the radio could reach the receiver, and where it was actually under the edge of the sprinklers and not the end gun sprinkler. We decided.

So there’s an antenna on top, a rain collector, a solar panel, and then eventually a probe that will run down into the ground. As we were working, I mentioned about a cow coming by and licking at the collector. Whoops. We should have thought of that earlier! We will either have to redo it with a taller pipe to keep it out of a cow’s reach or fence it off! We decided to leave it right now to see if the measurements make it to the receiver through the maze of buildings and trees that haven’t even leafed out yet.
I just might have to repost about a reposting!
It will be interesting to see how you all make any adjustments so the rain collector is safe from curious cows!
