Vernon has been working… with no winter to deal with… it’s a great year for projects. I rode along to haul supplies and see what he’d accomplished.
We have pieces of our Mesa Pasture that have needed *something* done. First was the entry/exit on the lower side. For years, as the trees have grown, the single file trail has become even more overgrown. There were so many trees to ride around, duck under, and squeeze through on horseback though perhaps it was still adequate if you were a cow, you’d still have to go through one at a time.
No more.

I did ask if Vernon had flattened the trail and was thrilled that he had!

We won’t have problems riding through this anymore. We can drive!
The next problem was a big draw and a point of land. When we trail off in the fall, if you didn’t have someone in place early enough, the cows would filter onto this point and get rimrocked. If they were pushed too hard, they’d try to bail off into this steep draw which could be ugly. Someone would have to get off their horse, hike around to try to get in front, and push them back the way they didn’t want to go.
We hauled up supplies to build a fence.

The idea is to fence this point.

Hopefully, the cows will hit this fence, then turn and walk down this new trail.

Some one will still be stationed here, but with a fence to help, it will make a world of difference.
