I’ll shake my head TWICE on this one… I’m down to a dozen chickens. I’m not counting Tuck, depending on whether she turns out to be a hen or rooster… and I still have that hen setting on some eggs… but I let my chickens out yesterday and noticed one hen wasn’t moving. Wings lowered. Waddling. Drooping belly.

She is egg bound. Meaning there’s an egg stuck inside. Treatment: a visit with the vet, OR a warm bath with epsom salts, a massage, a washing, and an aid from some lubrication…
So, sure enough… I dug out a big bucket and held her for a soak. No fighting, no fluttering. She literally was just relaxing and enjoying the warmth.

Then we became a bit more than “friends”. I cleaned out her vent of dried poop. Ish. I couldn’t feel an egg lodged, so I set her free.

She looked bedraggled, but she ate a bit… a good sign. Death can come within 48 hours. She was alive last night. She was alive this morning. She got another spa treatment this morning and we’re about to be besties.
But she’s alive. Maybe she will come out of this. I’ve never had a hen do this that I’ve noticed. Ah, what we do for our animals…
