The second time I helped gather was actually the third day… and we were only short a few head. Finding 20 something cows in a pasture that measures in miles isn’t easy. I left Daniel and Jaxon trailing in two pair and drove along, looking down along a deep draw. Nope. Brown grass. Prairie dogs. I went and looked into a bigger draw we call Spring Branch. Aha!
Two pair were contentedly grazing close to the bottom. There was no way I could get close with my side by side… I walked down, and yelled and whistled. You know those old cowboy songs that have yippy-ki-hi-yay? Well, making noise can get cows to move. It may be because it resembles dog barking. We generally use “hey, cow!” Or “Ho!”
I texted everyone and there were no cowboys close… I decided to drive around and see if I could move them further.

I hoped to get them going across the draw, but, not overly surprising… they went down. Poor Brandon had to go ride clear around to get them to the right spot, so my side by side cowboying failed… with the subtext that we did get them gathered – eventually!
