Yes, I have a few photos from county fair and the grandkids, but I have to finish my DC trip first.
- Monday the 20th we were due in Alexandria. We were becoming somewhat experts on the Metro system, so off we went. Once in Alexandria we Ubered out to Mount Vernon for the day. I had come to Mount Vernon as a 17 year old, but I do not remember the mansion itself. After the tour of the house, we split up, and I went off to a “farm tour”. I had hoped it would be more in depth, but it was interesting anyway. I went off to the museum, briefly, caught up to the others, and grabbed food and shopped because Vernon needed a Mount Vernon hat!
- The next day was “antiquing” and walking around Old Town Alexandria. It’s a very eclectic mix of George Washington era buildings mixed with newer and new buildings. We had to quit to go clean up for the awards ceremony.
- The ceremony was held at the George Washington Masonic National Memorial. Another fantastic building. Our State Representative Harriet Hageman did not make it, but another person with Ten Sleep roots did. I was great to visit with the other award winners afterward.
- The next day we were lucky enough to get a tour from Harriet Hageman’s office. We did meet her briefly, but it was so brief, we didn’t even get a photo! Nevertheless, E. from Cokeville gave us a good tour of the Capitol building. Just like that, our whirlwind tour of DC and Alexandria was over and we were headed to the Dulles airport on a highway with 12 lanes. Seriously. I couldn’t do that everyday… I am where I am meant to be!
- It was amazing to fly west and see fewer and fewer lights. Billings treated us well… and we arrived home Thursday. They dropped me at the county fair and I got to see what the grandkids had won.
- I drove back today to watch the “Bred and Fed” show (livestock must be born and raised in Washakie County). The first 20 miles I drove to Ten Sleep, I met 2 bicyclists and one vehicle. Now that’s my kind of driving!
I will be working on a big movie/slides of our trip for the library, so it may take a while to put together all of our photos… stay tuned. It was great but, like usual, there’s no place like home!

Really enjoyed following your trip.
Brought back a lot of nice memories from the two times I was there.
Sounds like there are many new museums and places to see! Thanks for sharing along the way.
Carole, have enjoyed what you shared about your trip. Very happy that you and your friends were able to be there. I look forward to your photos and commentary.
My mom who literally traveled the world always said, “It’s great to go, but it’s better to get home.” You really appreciate home when you’ve been away. Sounds like your trip was a winner. Eagerly awaiting more pictures and tales of the trip.
I have so enjoyed your trip to DC! Have been there a couple times, last century, attending conferences so did not have time for much “touristing”. Thank you for glimpses back to the few things I saw then, and all the other places you visited. So glad you were able to make this trip.
