Well, I couldn’t help myself… after all those days of travel and people… all I really wanted was silence. So I mentioned to Vernon I’d like to go to the mountain. He agreed, he had a few things to do up there and so we took our respective sxs. I decided to stay the night…
Sure enough. A breeze, crickets, some birds… no people, no trains, planes, or automobiles… no sirens, no nuthin’. OK, my dogs were fixated on a rockchuck, but Bravo’s whines weren’t very loud!

At 5 am, Indy’s barks woke me… and I “shshshsh’d” through the window. I grabbed a sweatshirt and went to sit on the porch. Soon it began in earnest.
This was intense for about an hour and a half. After cows and calves had found each other, and the bulls tested their bugling, they settled in to grazing, then they laid down, with just an occasional call. Believe me when I say there’s nothing that can put a smile on my face faster than an elk bugling while I’m making up my bed! Breakfast and coffee made and I sat there some more… counting my blessings and enjoying the “show”.

Heaven. How fortunate we are when knowing we’ve found our place. Yours sounds heavenly. Welcome home.
