No surprise, the guys are busy haying lately. Here Daniel is cutting the oats in the pivot field. Notice how tall the oats are… almost to the top of his back tractor tire! While oats may be considered a grain, we are cutting them while they’re still green so it will be oat hay not dry oats.

This little field was also planted to oats, back in the spring when it was so mild so early. Both fields have produced really well.

With this super hot weather we’ve had, it doesn’t take long for the hay to dry so it can be baled. Yesterday, I had 99* on my weather station and today was 101*. It’s hotter in the direct sun. Tonight at 10 pm, it’s still measuring 93*. Blech. I’ve just been hiding in my house, very grateful for my little window air conditioner! If this isn’t haying weather… there is no such thing!
