Photography Class

Posted on November 13, 2021November 13, 2021

My photography class has ended. The last evening was spent printing our final three photos for the show, placing them on foam core board and then shrink wrapping them for display. My three choices were these. I think all of the art was exceptional and to have them printed right in class on such quality…

Happy Cows

Posted on November 12, 2021November 12, 2021

My cheeks tingled with the cold. A bead of snot repeatedly gathered at the tip of my nose, the cold air making it leak like a vintage faucet. I was bundled in long johns, jeans, and my leather chinks. T-shirt, long sleeved shirt, hoodie, and wind proof jacket. Gloves. Hat. I followed the guys as…

Productive

Posted on November 9, 2021November 9, 2021

The cows were down, grazing in the Double Crossing. Cows know this routine as well, so half of them were piled in one corner, ready for the next step of their journey. But, first… Corral work. Cows go this way. Heifers go that way. The girls that didn’t make the cut will be sold, and…

Off the Mesa

Posted on November 8, 2021November 8, 2021

Well, it’s the end of October/first of November time around here… that means it’s time to move cows! We follow the same timeline year after year, so looking back (or re-reading) posts on this blog will find us repeating actions in a year long Groundhog Day type movie. Technically, it is referred to as transhumance….

Cowboying Video

Posted on November 7, 2021November 7, 2021

From August 29 through September 11, 2021, we did a fair amount of cowboying. We doctored a sick calf, moved cattle, pregnancy tested, and moved them again. In the middle of it all, Quinlan had some football games and his birthday. Bravo got some much needed cow work done as well.

Money Makers

Posted on November 6, 2021November 6, 2021

If only we could sell these as free range, pasture raised, organic turkeys for Thanksgiving . Boy, could we make some money! There’s more out of this photo, too… and, just think, it wasn’t that many years ago, there were no turkeys around here!

#TBT: Makeover, v.2.0

Posted on November 4, 2021November 4, 2021

This was first posted November 5, 2010. The guys did “clean-up” today…Reriding the pasture…Looking for the few head we were short. One wild cow had jumped into the neighbor’s and they were nice enough to bring her home. They covered lots of country and found three lone heifers down in the cedars. It’s easy to…

Looking a Little HeiHei

Posted on November 2, 2021November 2, 2021

Have you seen the movie, Moana? If you don’t have young kids or grandkids, you may not have seen this Disney movie. I’d honestly recommend it to anyone. If you get a chance, one of these cold evenings, go ahead and rent/stream/view it! One of the characters in Moana is a little, very… simple minded……
