18 pints of tomatoes, 10 cups of Hatch green chilis (and some saved for fresh), lots of tomato juice that I hope to make into a spicy V8 imitation… and more tomatoes peeled that I gave to Megan, because… whew. Plus Reagan and I cleaned and refilled the hot tub for winter while everyone else…

Across the Scales
The calves are now used to being on their own. This is the “innocent” corral… it was the calves in the other corral that escaped and led us on a not-so-merry chase. They are back where they belong. We weighed the “good” bunch today. We keep all sorts of records on our cattle… even weighing…
Eager
Bravo is always eager for his walk. I’m never fast enough!
#TBT: Playing in the Dark, v.2.0
This was first published September 23, 2010. Playing in the dark… WAAAAAYYY back when… I was the youngest kid on the block, so I didn’t get to join in much… but we played a game called Sardines. It is the opposite of Hide and Seek, kinda, sorta. In the dark, with boundaries…

B&W Version
I have to share some of my black and white photos from the other day… Daniel runs the vet’s hydraulic squeeze chute. The cow walks in and is held still while the vet examines her to see if she’s pregnant. The Good Doctor, dressed with white protective coveralls, lubricates and inserts his hand to feel…
Wand
This time of year, I don’t accomplish much in the way of crafting. But today was cold and cloudy and it even showered briefly a time or two. It was difficult to keep from pulling out something besides dishes, cooking, and laundry to do! It reminded me that I *had* taken the time to craft…
Living the Best (Ranch) Life video
Finally! another video… I’m getting way behind, but here is the first part of July. While we celebrate Independence Day in Ten Sleep, the rest of July finds us moving many bunches of cattle, usually about sunrise. It’s also a great time to see cow elk and their calves. We finally celebrated Johnny’s 90th birthday…
Ten Things You May Not Know About… Corral Work
We’ve just come off of pregnancy testing… which is done in our mountain corral. They are long days… though they’ve been longer days in the past. We have been known to have to use flashlights to find calves’ tag numbers because we would wean those calves belonging to the “open” (non-pregnant) cows. That was a…
Ugly
The calves are out! Put that on the list of top ten things ranchers don’t ever want to hear. I had it easy, watching Quinlan and Reagan, driving the side by side (admittedly through some rough country), staying THERE to prevent calves from going OVER THERE. Hauling drinks and snacks and running back to meet…
#TBT: “A Picture of Progress”, v.2.0
This was first published September 17, 2010. Finally, a picture of progress. Before we started remodeling the bathroom… it was classic 1950’s style.Cool mint green *fake* tile… With a neato fishy on the rear wall! Although there was a shower curtain, notice there is no REAL shower. Remember those you could hook onto the tub…
