We tried to tell her she’s just turning five, but she insists she’s turned seven.

#TBT: Rain Is A Good Thing, v.2.0

Posted on June 10, 2021June 10, 2021

This was first posted June 13, 2010. I chose it since it is HOT and DRY right now. Are we ever happy? Rain is a good thing… honestly… in Wyoming’s dry climate, water is scarce.  On Wyoming ranches everything is based on limited water.  Reservoirs and pipelines to water cattle.  Irrigation for crops and hay….

Five Minutes

Posted on June 8, 2021June 8, 2021

Oh, the excitement! Oh, the feeling of being grown up! While the rest of us here on the ranch are over the bubbling enthusiasm portrayed by the next generation when doing “mundane” chores… for the kids, it becomes a badge of honor. Take for instance, that chore of opening gates. When was the last time…

Early Morning Ride

Posted on June 7, 2021June 7, 2021

Early morning to beat the heat… Riding to this pasture since it’s so close… then gathering the miles of hills and boggy draws… Some sorting and some counting… (check out my Instagram reel) Only 6.5 hours in the saddle. If there was any justice in the world, I’d lose ten pounds on days like today!

Cool Rocks

Posted on June 6, 2021June 6, 2021

A few days ago, we revisited the red cliffs, home to pioneer signatures… Home of tragic battles… It was a very warm day… kids, adults, and one warm dog wandered around peering into cracks in the cliff. While we attempted to keep track of all the children… Bravo disappeared. Looking around a corner, I spied…

Ranch Living Video

Posted on June 5, 2021June 5, 2021

Another “Re-Red” video! This one covers April 29 – May 9, 2021. I’ve been so busy lately, it doesn’t seem like I have time to make these videos! I’m wising up, though, and doing a bit for a few days instead of all at once. This video covers the Library Tea Party, planting oats and…

Water Gap

Posted on June 4, 2021June 4, 2021

I’ve talked about this before… how hard we work almost every summer to create, expand, improve, or pipe water for our cows. Good water is essential for healthy cattle. With water sources scattered around pastures, cows will get a better use of the grass and forage available. Some cows, like people, are lazy and would…

Continuing Cowboying

Posted on June 1, 2021June 1, 2021

I’ve spent two days babysitting, but tomorrow will be my turn to ride. Victoria is here, and she and I get to ride together for old times’ sake, plus pony along two of her children. Rotation works well for us, someone staying with the kids, freeing up two girls to ride. With Victoria in the…

Carol, Wyoming rancher

Since 2008, I’ve kept this photographic journal of life on our working Wyoming ranch.  I share ranch work, my family, crafts and DIY, my English Shepherds, Bravo and Indy, and a love for this land.  Enjoy this red dirt country!
