Spring Work

Posted on May 5, 2019May 5, 2019

The guys are busy plowing, discing, and fertilizing the fields… it’s magical how we instantaneously turn into farmers… Well, I have my farming to do as well! The garden is now clean and tilled… next I’ll see what compost/straw/manure I can find to add to it. I’ve debated about moving my tomato watering buckets… still…

Day Plus

Posted on May 4, 2019May 4, 2019

I work outside… in my house… then I have to sit down and work on the table for a bit! This thing is irresistible! I’m seeing if I like the rather translucent paint versus just a solid coating. So far I’m happy with it, though I will add more shading and depth to the objects…

Girls and Their Toys

Posted on May 3, 2019May 3, 2019

Granted, I like jewelry. I like crafts. I like coats, but other clothing is … eh. I have multiple pairs of cowboy boots, but other shoes are… eh. My house is fairly well decorated the way I want… except that blasted downstairs bathroom! I can look through a garden catalog and wish… but I’m not…

#TBT : House Double Take

Posted on May 2, 2019May 2, 2019

This house photo (circa 1940’s?) (and, yes, I posted this a couple of weeks ago) compared to a fairly close image taken last week… The perspective is a tad bit off. The house has been added on to and is now covered in siding. The corner of the sod roof bunk house can be seen…

Day Somethingorother

Posted on April 30, 2019April 30, 2019

I have still been working on my woodburned table… but keeping track of how many days I’ve worked on it has gone by the wayside. I decided to add a quote around the edges as well… “You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending.”…

Round and Round

Posted on April 28, 2019April 28, 2019

While today was cold and windy and it even tried to snow… yesterday was sweet! Vernon asked if I’d like to drag fields with the pickup… and so I did. Settled with my audiobook, water bottle, and trusty sidekick… I set to work. Dragging fields is done with a simple metal toothed piece of equipment…

Into Life Backwards II

Posted on April 27, 2019April 27, 2019

Yesterday’s post began the story of 520’s calf. … 520 slides down to the ground. The guys get to jacking on the calf puller. Trying to keep everything in proper position, while still pulling on the calf’s legs… Whew! It’s out! Honestly, I didn’t think it looked good. But Vernon grabbed some weed stems and…

Into Life Backwards

Posted on April 26, 2019April 26, 2019

As we move our cows to the Badlands Pasture, we pair them, meaning each momma cow has to find her baby in the herd; they must recognize each other, and the baby must follow the cow out of the main bunch. Learning to follow momma is an important life skill, but this is the first…
