Collected Stories 11

Posted on November 8, 2024

Well Done

Posted on November 5, 2024

Out you go! All the calves have been weaned and all momma cows now head to the badlands to graze the good hard grass of the Big Horn Basin. While Brandon, Megan, Quinlan, and Lorelei braved the chilly wind on horseback, Vernon and I drove the side by side along fence lines, closing gates, tightening…

Calendar Time

Posted on November 4, 2024

I spent much of the day going through a bazillion photos… Then sorting and choosing… because it’s calendar time! I’ll go through it one more time to see if I think I’ve chosen the best for the month or holiday… But for now, here’s the cover!

Rustic Look

Posted on November 3, 2024November 3, 2024

Remember this? This is the metal clay pendant I made this summer, which then was taken back to California with my sister-in-law to be fired. She mailed it and Victoria’s earrings back to me. I waited for Victoria to come over for our final polish… The jewelry comes out of the kiln as bronze with…

Never Quit

Posted on November 2, 2024

We were blessed to have neighbors help us out the other day. Roper and Tina watch as the steer calves are loaded onto the semi. There’s always paperwork… They may have worked multiple hours for us, but the smiles didn’t ever quit.

Collected Stories 10

Written by E. L. Pyle,  Bigtrails, Wyo.      In the “Hole-in-the-wall” Country.      Several years ago we received a letter from one of mother’s brothers, O. E. Hoback, (then a blacksmith in a small western town) describing a hunting trip in the Big Horn Mountains in Wyoming.  It has so interested every one…

Outside and Semi-Productive 2

Posted on October 28, 2024

Reagan and I returned to find cows streaming down the hill and hiking to the gate. We teamed up on the gate and drove through to make sure the cows turned right. Vernon drove the pickup and horse trailer down the hill and met us just as the cows reached us. The three of us…

Outside and Semi-Productive

Posted on October 27, 2024

I helped! Reagan and I were on duty. Vernon, Daniel, Brandon, Victoria, Jaxon, Wyatt, and Matthew were going to bring cows off of our Mesa Pasture. Reagan and I could bring up the side by side, bringing drinks and snacks, following along on a short bit that the side by side could handle… then go…
