Throwback Thursday: How Lucky, v.2.0

Posted on October 10, 2024

This was first posted October 12, 2014. My favorite trail drive of the year… bringing the cows off the top of the Big Horn Mountains. It looks like they’ll fall off the top of the world… Never fear, there *is* a hillside to run down.  Well, I don’t run, but some cows do!  The rest…

Complete

Posted on October 8, 2024October 9, 2024

I had finished it. I was ready to sign it. But then on the drive to town, I kept noticing the sagebrush. The stems. My sagebrush in my painting didn’t have stems. I would have to correct that. So I did. And it was horrible. Bleh! Now I had to cover it all up, so…

Something To Do

Posted on October 7, 2024

I’m afraid this photographic journal is getting a tad short on photographs. My experiences don’t include much variety except the different rooms inside of my house. My painting is almost done… I actually thought it was complete, but today I wanted to add another touch. I’ve started on a diamond dot wildflower painting… no artistic…

Otherworldly

Posted on October 7, 2024

Vernon left the other morning and texted me this photo. We’ve been having spectacular sunrises and sunsets because of all the smoke in the air. The Elk Fire is at 73,000 acres. While it’s not the fire causing our smoke in the air, that’s the Pack Trail Fire by Dubois, it’s the closest. Ranchers have…

Finally

Posted on October 5, 2024

While my knee continues to improve slightly, I’m not supposed to put much weight on it. Sitting here in the house is definitely not my style, so Vernon was kind enough to take me up in the side by side to do a water check in our Mesa Pasture. Finally! I mean, I have gone…

Collected Stories 6

Posted on October 4, 2024

LIFE OF O. E. HOBACK as told to Edna Greet (Vernon’s grandmother) Wondering, Oscar asked what it was, and O’Day replied, “Destroy that little book you have in your pocket.”      So Oscar followed him into a bunkhouse behind the livery stable, and O’Day watched as he threw the note book with all its…

Throwback Thursday: Hashtag Wyoming Workhorses

Posted on October 3, 2024

This was first published October 4, 2014. I rode along this afternoon as the guys hauled the last of the weaned calves off the hill.  It was a nice day up there even with the breeze… Lucas got to come along… I got to wander around and take photos… Including a blurry one of a…

Painting

Posted on September 30, 2024

Finally! One long, hot shower since I can bend my knee enough to clamber into the bathtub! Yay! Sponge baths and a quick shampoo just doesn’t cut it. My knee improves daily and I have an MRI scheduled. I still haven’t been outside, which is tough… but Vernon has been taking care of my chickens…

Quarter Panel

Posted on September 29, 2024

While I’m laid up, I guess some decorative art is on my agenda. First off, I have this buffalo skull hanging on some gorgeous, blue stained tongue and groove. My apologies for the weird angle. And that’s some sweetgrass I’ve temporarily placed in his nose. The point is, the skull has a tendency to blend…

Carol, Wyoming rancher

Since 2008, I’ve kept this photographic journal of life on our working Wyoming ranch.  I share ranch work, my family, crafts and DIY, my English Shepherds, Bravo and Indy, and a love for this land.  Enjoy this red dirt country!
