Pear Blossom

Posted on June 24, 2024

I have stayed up too late and we’re branding our last calves tomorrow, bright and early and, hopefully, in the semi-coolness… so I’m quitting early on you, if 11:30 pm is considered “early”. As usual, I did find a photo for you… This prickly pear cactus is in peak bloom and showing off!

Our Reminisces

Posted on June 23, 2024

I wish I’d been recording while these three reminisced their own stories the other day during our lunch break. It went kind of like this… I’ve added some input as well.

Quite Nicely

Posted on June 22, 2024

While the James Greet Reminiscing series comes to an end, cowboying in the present continues. On day two of the Badlands Gather, I was in charge of babysitting Reagan at home and bringing the chuckwagon when requested. Throughout the morning, I received updates from Megan (when she had service) of where they were and how…

Reminiscing XXX

Posted on June 21, 2024June 21, 2024

This story is from James Greet, written in 1991 about his life as a cowboy in the 1940’s. I could always tell what variety of wood was being burned by the odor of the smoke. In the towns, there was the odor of coal or coke being used. Coke was coal with the oil extracted from…

Throwback Thursday: Learning Adventure, v.2.0

Posted on June 20, 2024

This was first posted June 23, 2014. Before I left for the Garden Walk, I knew I needed to check on my bees.  Thursday was a cool morning… perfect! I was going to check my Golden Hive, as last time, Mesopotamia had the check up.  Slow and steady, I pried each bar from the other,…

Wordless Wednesday: Ah, Indian Paintbrush

Posted on June 19, 2024

Of all the colors of Indian Paintbrush that exist… I love this brilliant red the most. Believe me, the photo doesn’t do it justice. For its jigsaw puzzle, go HERE.

Wyoming Photos

Posted on June 18, 2024

It’s time to bring the cattle in from the “Badlands”, aka, our BLM allotment named Willow Creek. Victoria and Waylon and Matthew came to help, and I’m on lunch duty while spending some special time with Reagan. Today was barely in the ‘60*’s, so chili and hot chocolate wouldn’t have been out of the question,…

Summer Reading

Posted on June 17, 2024

The summer reading program is in full swing at the Ten Sleep Library and I do program one day a week. The other two part time librarians do one day each, as well, so we have a three day a week program. The theme is “Adventure Begins at Your Library.” One girl is doing Tall…

Practice

Posted on June 16, 2024June 16, 2024

While the guys are busy cutting, raking, and baling hay… I’ve had kids to practice my library summer reading program on. Well, ok, first came a little creek stomping. Then, for my Survivor Day Program… alternate ways of getting drinking water… Then, make your own shelter with only a few items… And… as a bonus……

Peony Jelly

Posted on June 15, 2024

It’s that time again… my peonies were in bloom and I wasn’t going to miss making peony jelly. My first try was last year and I enjoyed the light floral jelly. I happened to mention my plans in front of Lorelei, and just that fast, I had an apprentice! Peonies in full bloom are very…

Reminiscing XXIX

Posted on June 14, 2024

This story is from James Greet, written in 1991 about his life as a cowboy in the 1940’s. I remember one Christmas of riding in Grandad Pyle’s Model T Ford. I rode in the backseat with grandma. The car did have side curtains, but we needed heavy coats to keep warm. Grandma and I had an…

Throwback Thursday: Amazing Water, v.2.0

Posted on June 13, 2024

This was first posted June 15, 2014. Continuing the water project theme… The last day I rode, we trailed cows to a leased pasture.  It’s one we pass through on our way up the mountain, and one that used to belong to some relatives.  Now under new ownership, we lease the pasture from them.  We…
