Fair in Previous Years

Posted on July 21, 2024July 22, 2024

Whoops. I was partially wrong yesterday when I said that Vernon and I had no experiences with competing at county fairs. Our kids didn’t. I didn’t. But Vernon and his sister (who is visiting right now) both took animals to the Washakie County Fair. Oddly enough, we’ve been going through old photos and guess what?…

Fairly Well

Posted on July 20, 2024

The Washakie County Fair has started… and suddenly, as Vernon says, we are a 4H/FFA outfit with a few cows on the side…. The horse show was today and then next week we will be attending the pig show (Quinlan and Lorelei), the sheep show, (Jaxon and Lacee), the beef show (all four), the bred…

Country Like This

When they text you to bring up more supplies to where they’re building fence… stop and think. You know that while grass down here is finished, grass on the mountain will be still covered in pollen. Take an allergy pill! But, no… Drive around taking photos to document things, because that’s what you do… and…

Throwback Thursday: To Bee at Summer School, v.2.0

Posted on July 18, 2024

This was first published July 17, 2014. This morning I hosted Ten Sleep’s summer school on a field trip.  Their focus is on… bees!  I decided I could help with that! First was a talk on my lawn… where we looked at new and old comb and dead bees and brood comb and drone comb…

Wordless Wednesday: There’s a Web

Posted on July 17, 2024

Vernon captured this photo and I thought it was too good to pass up for a puzzle pic! Points to those who can finish this title line from an old Girl Scout song… and the jigsaw is HERE.

This Day

Posted on July 16, 2024

The horses wait patiently as the semis are unloaded. I don’t know why I like these versions so much… but I do. They have an entirely different vibe from just transferring color to a basic black and white. Over exposed. Grainy. Gritty. Not that I would take all of my photos like this… Wyoming’s beauty…

Mooving Again

Posted on July 15, 2024July 16, 2024

When six semi’s show up in your driveway first thing in the morning, you get the hint that you might have a big day. I chose to use a black and white filter. There’s definitely an old fashioned look to these photos. I’ll share more when I’m not falling asleep!

Library Class

Posted on July 14, 2024

I taught a tie dye class for adults at the library Friday night. After researching some amazing artists on YouTube (there are some crazy talented people out there), I chose to do an outline of symmetrical shapes or animal heads in class. We used just the more inexpensive tie dye kits on pillowcases and bandannas….

Job Done

Posted on July 13, 2024

Ugh. I bet I’ve drank two gallons of water since I got home. It was a hot, dusty day. While we made good time gathering… It’s all the pairing that takes time. And the fact that neighbors kept driving by while we were waiting for calves to find their mommas. We do enjoy visiting with…

Work

Posted on July 12, 2024

You know you’ve been working as a family for days when kids’ photos start looking like this… Quinlan: Asleep on the hard, hot flatbed… Lorelei: Asleep on the four wheeler while trucks are being loaded. Reagan: Asleep in my mini truck while we were pairing out… (and, yes, it is a blurry photo…) I know…

Throwback Thursday: Craig Johnson – One Book Wyoming

Posted on July 11, 2024

This was first posted July 11, 2014. Unreal that we’ve become friends with Craig over the years, and he continues to visit our library on a regular basis. Spirit of Steamboat is a great Longmire novella, and the poster is better if you read the book. No, we did not use this as the official…
