Fort Caspar

Posted on July 25, 2021July 25, 2021

I’ve been planning this since last year… after the kids’ rodeo costume contest and our trip over the mountain to Fort Phil Kearney… Caspar Collins Day at Fort Caspar was next on my agenda. They canceled it last year, but held a virtual tour of the Fort at Christmastime which my troopers “attended”.

Finally, the day came, and no cow work got in the way! Since I was nervous some ol’ cow would be in the ditch, or some such emergency, we never told the boys even though they guessed right away what we were up to. An early morning departure had us thinking we were on a wildlife tour. Hawks, one coyote, deer, antelope, chukars, two fox, the normal cattle and horses… all entertained us.

It wasn’t long before we were in the thick of things…

I think they had fun.

For those interested in the history… the Battle of Platte Bridge Station is HERE… the Fort Caspar website is HERE. Don’t worry, there’s more to come!

Unforgettabl memories and fun for the boys! I bet they will have their own ‘re-enactment’ activities at home sometime.

Interesting history for the boys. When do the girls get to go?
Sometimes reading actual history at the site just makes you mad, because of what seems like incompetence. Of course hindsight is 20/20.

What memories those boys are building, and with cousins. Love it

You’re doing a great job of keeping them interested in the history of your area, something most kids don’t get enough of even when they’re interested in it.
