Our nice and sunny is headed for nasty and cloudy, AGAIN.
Storms and the resulting changes in air pressure can bring on labor. Even though the majority of our heifers should calve starting the 27th of February, weather and low birthweight bulls (used on our heifers for ease in calving their first babies) can slightly change the nine month gestation period. So we prepared.

The heifers were sorted off from the cows that were in this bunch for various reasons. We always keep a closer eye on the heifers. It’s their first calf and complications may arise or they just may not know what to do without a tad bit of guidance. Cows are experts and while we watch them as well, it’s not around the clock like the younger ones.

Clean straw is spread for the heifers’ bedding. They’ll be brought into the calving shed at night and checked on.

But first, some nice green hay to settle in with. Looks like it is tasty!

More can go wrong the first time. The low birth weight bulls are a excellent idea so the calf isn’t huge to cause extra problems.
My, I sound like I know that I’m talking about don’t I? Shows what watching vet programs on Disney+ does!
Expert care that will certainly help the cow Moms, as their soon-to-be calves, “Greet” the world!
Looks good!! Happy girls!
