For our Sunday trip this week, Vernon has really wanted to drive over Highway 14A. Highway 14 is a trip I’ve shared before… covering Shell, Wyoming and Shell Falls… here’s a few pics of that. There’s also a video where I share this… But 14A kicks you off northwest off the top of the Big Horn Mountains. We were off!
As far as wildlife goes… we spotted four moose!
Don’t miss the second one in the tree!
This one JUST played down as we stopped…
This youngster was closest to the road.
We also saw a couple of elk and some deer…
Our side trips that we had discussed earlier, we tabled. We weren’t too sure about driving in some places since the highway itself hasn’t been open from winter closure for too long.
As you can see, drifts are laying in the draws and gullies and snowmelt is running in between them all. The Medicine Wheel and Bucking Mule Falls will have to wait just a bit more!
I DO NOT RECOMMEND this drive for those of you who are slightly scared of heights. The drop-off is hard and fast and it’s best to know how to down shift and save your brakes! But I’ll share those photos tomorrow.
Find me here!
I bet you were ecstatic to take the moose pictures! What a memorable
Sunday drive. And I enjoyed the explanation of the Big Horn Basin, and then looked up the history of the Medicine Wheel…fascinating.
Ditto to what Susan said.
It was fun to go back and watch the video. I was all “Wow, that was so neat” and then looked at the comments and discovered that I agreed with myself!
Thanks for doing this blog. I really enjoy it.
Loved seeing the moose but especially reading the history and explanation of the Big horn Basin! Thanks for the field trip
