So this is my needle felted bag as it stands now… a bit more progress than the last pic I shared of it. I’m contemplating entering it or some other item in a wool art show this summer… but, even though I like it, I don’t feel like it works with the bag. It’s just a rectangle on a bag. Should I add just single aspen trees on the sides? Or make the top flow with the angled handle of the bag? Should I add sky in the stitched edges? Continue the painting clear across? It needs something else to make it pop as more “art” than “craft”.
Ideas, anyone?
Try extending the art to both edges of the bag without going up any further…it might provide some visual balance. It’s gorgeous!!
I would expand the scene across the entire bag and bring up and finish/fill (make a more natural tree look rather than chopped off) the tops of the trees, particularly on the edges so it’s not so abrupt but rather more natural. I don’t think I would run anything up and into the handle area (unless maybe a monogram?) but rather stay in the stitching defined picture frame. But that’s me.
Perfect!
Good ideas as this is a work in progress. Might extend the border of it to the sides of the bag. Change the tops of the trees to be more contoured. Add a happy sun in one corner and small clouds or birds for another artsy touch. Good luck. Be sure to show us your finished product sometime.
To start with, I think it looks great as is. You might continue it across, but I think the square shape is what’s confining it. Instead of a straight line top, add contour shaped like the treetops. Then again, it looks super cute as is.
Print some color copies and try out different ideas.
Maybe some wildflowers or a path wandering out of the frame?
