Two batches of applesauce later…
While they grow excellent pears and apples in Ten Sleep Canyon, I don’t usually get any apples because for years, when hunters come out from Minnesota and Wisconsin, they bring us cases of apples. I set out to peel a case of apples when Victoria texted and mentioned she had finished making salsa and applesauce. She made her applesauce in her crockpot.
Say what?
After years of making applesauce on my stove, worrying about scorching it or having it bubble over and making a mess… my daughter had geniused it to another level. Well. Duh. Why didn’t I ever think of that? It works like a charm. You can actually walk away and do something else for a bit!
Same recipe. Which isn’t really a recipe… sliced and peeled apples to fill a large crockpot. One cup of water, one cup of sugar, a cinnamon stick if desired, some lemon juice to keep the apples from turning…. Pour over the apples. Turn to “high” and go about cleaning up your kitchen. Stir on occasion. Use a potato masher if you desire. Don’t use a blender unless you want baby food texture! That applesauce will be used in recipes. Live and learn. I freeze it and yum… homemade applesauce is delish! And now I know how to make it easily thanks to Victoria. Thought I’d share in case some of you would like to try this method.

I’m definitely going to try this on my half-bushel of apples I picked
a few weeks ago! Thanks for the recipe.
Yes, we can still learn from our kids. Well done Victoria..
Yum!
