Farmers

Posted on May 11, 2025May 11, 2025

While I’m working on my house and yard, the guys are busy plowing, discing, and leveling fields.

Look closely and you’ll see Vernon in the blue tractor. This field had a great deal of winter killed alfalfa… or rather it didn’t have alfalfa… Either way, they’re busy working on it.

First you plow. Then you go over it again with the disc that breaks up the big clods left by the plow.

You can easily see the difference where he hasn’t hit the dirt with the disc. He will go over it once one way and then again at a ninety degree angle from the first pass. Later, they’ll take the leveler out there, knocking down any high spots that may exist so that our flood irrigation covers the field well. We hope for no high and dry spots nor any low, boggy places either.

Bet you didn’t realize how much ranchers farm, did you?
