Water Project

Posted on September 12, 2020September 12, 2020

Growing up, Victoria reminisced, there was hardly a summer we didn’t work on a water project. I imagine she’s pretty accurate. Water means a great deal in this high desert country. If you’re not developing a new source, there are rusty metal tanks to replace, plastic pipeline to dig up and repair, electric fence to…

Case Lots!

Posted on September 11, 2020September 11, 2020

I’m fairly pleased with myself. Today I managed to go shopping at my local grocery store… to their CASE LOTS SALE! Now, I live four hours away from a Costco and Sam’s Club… so this is a Big Deal for me. This is how I’ve shopped for YEARS. Until this spring. *For those of you…

#TBT: Wild Life, v.2.0

Posted on September 10, 2020September 10, 2020

This was first posted September 14, 2009. When my friends from New Zealand were here not long ago…it made me re-realize the amount of wildlife we take for granted. I mean, I *know* it…but sometimes you just need people to oooohhh  and aaaahhhhh over the little mule deer doe in the road to remind you! You can…

Dodge

Posted on September 8, 2020September 8, 2020

We definitely dodged that bullet. It snowed here, lightly, briefly, and none of it stuck on the grass. The low temperature was only 34 degrees at my house. We received .29″ of rain, which was wonderful. The rest of Wyoming was not so lucky. Snow fell and stacked up and the wind howled. I’ve seen…

Freeze Coming

Posted on September 7, 2020September 7, 2020

Wyoming remembered how to rain today. Saturday I was sweating while I was covering my tomatoes… yesterday was cooler and windy… right now it’s raining and 37 degrees, so snow will be here overnight. I had some old floor underlayment… the cushioned foamy stuff under flooring. I wondered if it would help protect the tomatoes…

Forecast

Posted on September 5, 2020September 5, 2020

While it was in the high 90’s today… Tuesday’s high is forecasted to be only 40. Yes, you read that right. So, even though the plan is to cover my garden, it still may not make it. Today, I put the grandkids to work, picking corn, shucking, and picking the silk while I sliced the…

Grossness

Posted on September 4, 2020September 4, 2020

I debated about sharing this… It’s gross. It made me say some bad words. So, if you’re not interested in unsavory medical anomalies, maybe you should just skip this post and I’ll see you tomorrow. Here’s your chance. See ya later… OK. Three and a half months ago, Daniel tipped over his four wheeler. Thank…

#TBT: Mountain OOPE, v.2.0

Posted on September 3, 2020September 3, 2020

This was first posted September 3, 2009. My collection of OOPE photos continues to grow. I’ve always just stuck the camera in my pocket (hence the Out Of Pocket Experience title!)…but when it is 90 degrees outside…a coat or sweatshirt with pockets just doesn’t cut it! For those of you new to the OOPE photos……

Petroglyph Proof

Posted on September 1, 2020September 1, 2020

After our trip back in to history to the Lewis homestead cabin, we went even farther back in history with a side trip to petroglyphs. Just like The Dugout, I have written about the petroglyphs before. You might want to click through and read the link first. I was wondering how they were holding up…

Carol, Wyoming rancher

Since 2008, I’ve kept this photographic journal of life on our working Wyoming ranch.  I share ranch work, my family, crafts and DIY, my English Shepherds, Bravo and Indy, and a love for this land.  Enjoy this red dirt country!
