Rocket Stove

Posted on September 29, 2019September 29, 2019

There was more rain today… but we will take it over the four feet of snow they had in Montana! We visited my sister, who showed me how her rocket stove worked. Now, I had Brandon help me make this present for her last year, but, in my typical fashion, I gave it to her…

Small Town Homecoming Parade

Posted on September 27, 2019September 27, 2019

Small town homecoming parade… It was raining pretty good… and the decorations were looking a bit bedraggled. It seemed like the kids had fun… even with car problems. It was over quickly… and the tour bus and truck drivers and tourists enjoyed being a part of it as the crowd dispersed towards the school…

#TBT: Here They Come… There They Go, v.2.0

Posted on September 26, 2019September 26, 2019

This was first posted September 25, 2008. My sister took this picture for me… I love it.  Here we all are, well, my sister and my husband are both following us with the pickup and horsetrailer… But look!  It’s US!  After a long day of cowboyin’, we ride for the corral, shadowing a puny feeling…

Salsa

Posted on September 24, 2019September 24, 2019

Thankfully, my sister and brother-in-law are fantastic gardeners. They didn’t get hit with hail twice like I did, either! Check out ONE of my sister’s onions… ONE. Four cups diced from ONE onion is a pretty good sized onion! They also shared tomatoes and peppers… so… salsa, here I come. I ended up with 19…

Frog Eye Salad

Posted on September 23, 2019September 23, 2019

Since I mentioned it as part of the preg testing day menu, a few people have asked me for my Frog Eye Salad recipe. This recipe has been around quite a while… I imagine I got it from my mom. I remember Frog Eye Salad at brandings and funerals and carry-in dinners. Now you hardly…

Going For Gift

Posted on September 22, 2019September 22, 2019

Finally, I get to share! My gift has arrived and now I can show my latest woodburning project. It began as a recycled wood sign. I sanded off the brown paint, and gave myself a new canvas. I expected more of a pine board, but it is a hardwood, I believe… and it wasn’t that…

Good Timing

Posted on September 21, 2019September 21, 2019

Do we have good timing or what? Preg testing cows… and it’s foggy, cold, and not quite pleasant. I arrived late with the grandkids… and set up lunch in the salt shed. My view barely let me see the squeeze chute and people working in the corral. The Cousin Crew was happy for hot chocolate….

Riding In the Bottom of a Cloud

Posted on September 20, 2019September 20, 2019

(continued from yesterday’s post) We’d had a full slate of gathering and pregnancy testing our heifers. Normally, we’d follow the vet down the mountain, calling it a day, especially to escape the strong winds that had blown constantly. But there was a debate. Bad weather was supposed to come in later in the week, when…

Just Beginning

Posted on September 19, 2019September 19, 2019

I’m passing on #Throwback Thursday this week… And sharing my wonderful Tuesday with you instead! We were to preg test our heifers. Sounds easy enough. First you gather the pasture. Enjoy riding past the tiny little fairy waterfall… Take the heifers up and over the hill and down to the corral… Then figure out how…
