Grateful

Posted on April 19, 2017April 18, 2017

Two minutes after a tired little boy fell asleep, the phone rang with the news that we had a calf out on the highway.  Of course, we did. I sent a text to Brandon… the only one of us who always carries his phone (or has one, in my case).  It didn’t say “received”… so……

Ranch Kid

Posted on April 18, 2017April 17, 2017

Ranch kids learn jobs early.  Lorelei is waving her stock flag out the window as we sit on the side of the road with our emergency flashers blinking.  We’re alerting other (very few) drivers that, hey, there’s cows on the road, so please slow down! Call It

Posted on April 16, 2017

Finally!  A few cows were turned out onto green grass and fresh pasture! Daniel cuts out a pair… They come out onto the highway… I had a little baby who lost its momma… but the guys found her and turned her back… and then we could slowly walk down the highway.  We were slow, but…

#TBT: Elk Horn Resemblance

Posted on April 14, 2017April 13, 2017

Lately, I was struck by the resemblance of an old photo and one taken just a week or so ago… This is me… age four?  My father was proud of this elk… in fact, these antlers still hang in my brother’s garage.  We always ate wild game for our meat, and this year must have…

Happy to Help

Posted on April 11, 2017

We’re working on a big project over at Brandon’s. As a result, I believe I participated in more heavy work than I’m used to, as I fell asleep before 10 pm… on the couch!  Now, don’t think I did a humongous amount of work, that was Brandon.  But, I did a smidge.  I was happy…

Home Again

Posted on April 10, 2017

Well, more shopping, more visiting… and the storm blew in… and in Casper, Wyoming when you say a storm BLEW in, it definitely BLOWS in!!!! Casper people aren’t sissies when it comes to Wind. And, yes, that’s Casper Mountain hiding behind that snow cloud. I bought some amazing crafting supplies, so hopefully soon I might…

Nothing

Posted on April 9, 2017April 8, 2017

The plan was to end up with my free pair of Stetson boots today.  You know the ones I won with the amateur photography award from Working Ranch Magazine? None at Boot Barn. The girls at Lou Tauberts Ranch Outfitters went above and beyond, but it appears there may not be any ladies Stetson boots…

Carol, Wyoming rancher

Since 2008, I’ve kept this photographic journal of life on our working Wyoming ranch.  I share ranch work, my family, crafts and DIY, my English Shepherds, Bravo and Indy, and a love for this land.  Enjoy this red dirt country!
