North x Northwest

With branding over, it’s now time to split up the herd into smaller ones.  The guys like to do this since it is so much easier to see which bulls are with which cows…  They spend a great deal of time discussing “If we put this bull here with that bull, then we have such-n-such…

Branding 2016

Posted on June 3, 2016June 2, 2016

The Gauntlet. The branding barrel and my “bar” branding irons. Waiting on the ropers. Vaccinators. Lunchtime. This isn’t out of focus… it’s through the heat of the branding barrels. Work Load

Posted on June 2, 2016June 1, 2016

I didn’t ride today… Too much to do, so I babysat Toria’s kids and tried to get ready for branding! I don’t think I’ve sat down very much today.  Once in the rocking chair to get Matthew to take a nap this morning… and I was wishing he didn’t fall asleep so fast this time! …

Oh, My Goodness

Posted on June 1, 2016May 31, 2016

Riding for 10 hours today.  It’s a good way to be sore ALL OVER. Tomorrow has the potential to be a short day or another LONG day… so I may pass.  Riding for another 10 wouldn’t be so bad, it would be coming home and having to cook and prepare for branding that would do…

Posted on May 31, 2016May 30, 2016

I’ve been fighting off a case of the stomach flu… and everyone else is working, gathering cows.  Tomorrow I may ride along, and there will be photos… you know there will be photos…

Cloud Friends

After lunch, I thought I’d jump on the lawnmower and cut that patch of REALLY tall grass where the horsetrailer had been parked.  Then I’d trim around the buildings.  Five hours later, I was still mowing and trimming and I’m still not finished. I had found out the rest of the grass was tall as…

Perfect Timing

Posted on May 28, 2016May 27, 2016

The boys have been working on AI-ing our heifers.  Daniel has helped some neighbors with their heifers as well.  Today was our Big Day and I was called into help. I had spent the morning transplanting flowers but they wanted me after lunch, so my tomatoes will still have to wait to be planted. Vernon…

Last Breath

Posted on May 24, 2016May 24, 2016

The end of an era… The second most photographed barn in Wyoming has finally lost its battle with gravity… Here she is May of 2014… looking sad as her second floor collapsed… Floodwaters surrounded her… but she was hanging on! Last week, she finally breathed her last.

Ten Sleep Fire Hall

Posted on May 23, 2016May 23, 2016

When the fire hall in Ten Sleep burned down, many of us were simply shocked.  I had a very minor role in getting some of the grants it was built with… I still call the retired Fire Chief, “Boss”, even though it’s been years since he held that position.  My husband’s on the Fire District…
