#TBT: Pairs, v.2.0

Posted on April 15, 2021April 15, 2021

This was first posted April 15, 2010. A while back, someone asked about eartags…   Every place is different, keep that in mind… but here our system is pretty simple.   If a cow is born is 2004… her eartag will start with a 4.  Rarely do we keep cows over ten years, so this…

Thank God for Neighbors

Posted on April 11, 2021April 11, 2021

Oh, it might have been just a little branding. It might have lasted only a few hours. It might have not been a big deal to leg calves out instead of roping them… but we had four neighbors show up to help. For that we are grateful. For that act we will return help at…

Ranch Living Video

Posted on April 10, 2021April 10, 2021

This video for the blog, Red Dirt In My Soul, covers the end of February to the fifth of March, 2021. My final video of Valentino, the highway mountain lion kittens, more calving videos from milking mommas to bedding them down with straw… a little feeding from the pickup and spring snow completes this video.

Big Project

Posted on April 9, 2021April 9, 2021

I don’t know if this is the time of year to be starting this… cow work will soon consume much of our time… but with the weather warming up, I can work on this out in the shop without freezing to death! Megan has asked me to wood burn her dining table! Initially, we discussed…

#TBT: Atlatl, v.2.0

Posted on April 8, 2021April 8, 2021

This was first posted April 9, 2010. My trip to Kaycee’s Rendezvous turned out rather well. I gave my camera to a couple different adults and hoped they’d luck out and get at least one good photo… I was impressed!  Most of them turned out quite well! The fourth graders have been studying history…and Kaycee’s…

Wordless Wednesday: “After the Rain”

Posted on April 7, 2021April 7, 2021

For a jigsaw puzzle of this photo, go HERE. While I see many things wrong with this photo, the dark red of the wet dirt, the crows on the hill, and the fog laying between the hills still warranted me choosing this for this week’s puzzle.

Hill and Dale

Posted on April 5, 2021April 5, 2021

When the bottoms of the draws have melted their last snow and southern slopes gather the sun’s warmth like a down quilt, minuscule shoots of green sneak upwards. It seems to happen slowly, then, BAM!, there’s green almost everywhere. Well, there is if you can see it from a low enough angle. But that minuscule…

Happy Easter!

Posted on April 4, 2021April 4, 2021

I hope your holiday was enjoyable… The Ten Sleep town egg hunt was well attended… and Lacee won a bicycle and Reagan won a big stuffed rabbit! My scavenger hunt was well received… Clues could be anywhere… Brandon’s cows did eat one of the clues I taped to the water trough! But the goodies were…
