Country Thing

Posted on April 22, 2018

More rotating cows, kids, and us… I babysat Jaxon, Lacee, and Reagan after I’d helped pair the heifers and their calves and sort them in the corral.  That gave Tess a chance to work.  Then came lunch.  After which I babysat Quinlan and Lorelei, and put them to work helping me clean out my garden!…

Why’s and Wherefore’s

Posted on April 21, 2018

Cold Morning Calf

Posted on April 18, 2018

While spring tries to stand firmly, upright, hands on hips, in that defiant Peter Pan pose… Winter keeps blowing her down with late snow storms and gusty winds.  We are caught up in this bipolar condition… but, of course, not as badly as in early March when it was so cold during heifer calving season….

Cow Handling Tip of the Day

Posted on April 17, 2018

Although I posted this photo yesterday, I thought I might explain a bit of what’s happening. Sometimes cows can be very thrilled to be put out on fresh grass… and forget they have a calf. Pairing

Posted on April 15, 2018

Pairing This is how it’s done on the Greet Ranch. We pair momma cows and their babies everywhere we go… If they lose each other, they will return to the last place they saw each other… and if that’s in a different pasture a few miles away, believe me, they will get there!  So, we…

Not Quite Right

Posted on April 10, 2018

I’m still working four days a week at the library… we are getting very close to the end, but it’s been quite the project! That doesn’t leave me much time to help out on the ranch… but even though I haven’t been around much… I can can sure figure out something here isn’t quite right!…

Carol, Wyoming rancher

Since 2008, I’ve kept this photographic journal of life on our working Wyoming ranch.  I share ranch work, my family, crafts and DIY, my English Shepherds, Bravo and Indy, and a love for this land.  Enjoy this red dirt country!
