With branding accomplished, it’s been time to move the cattle out to various pastures. Some go here… some go there… Some are easy, short rides… some not so much! It just depends. All of our property is not contiguous. While it would be nice, back in the early days everyone knew to mimic the wildlife,…
But first, Happy 4th Birthday to Lacee! We can’t believe how the time has flown! You’re a very precious princess!
Yay! I made it to branding! After being so horribly sick for our first one, I was very happy to make it to this one! Unfortunately, Megan, Quinlan, and Lorelei didn’t attend because they were a bit under the weather. I managed my usual amount of photos… but I’ve also waited too long to post…
Wild, wild western weather, to be exact. The guys took a turn out in the badlands, gathering what few cows had been missed the past few days. Victoria and I worked on setting up and cooking for branding. The sky was dark mid morning… and it looked like I wasn’t going to have a chance…

More AI. The horse trailer doubles as an AI shed, holding the big semen tank, water warmer, lube, and long gloves. The boys look over some heifers… paying close attention to the silver/orange stickers and the actions of the girls. The heifers are bred and hauled off to fresh pasture. Another year done!
It’s AI breeding season for our heifers. The boys have been working… and I stopped in to help. We always get the question of “why would you Artificially Inseminate when you could just let a bull cover the girls instead?” Well, the heifers will be put out with a bull to catch the ones that…
We had to have Daniel’s birthday party to kick off AI Season, Gathering Season, and Prep-for-Branding Season! There’s not a lot of down time from here on out… And … it is Daniel’s 30th birthday … Everyone had to help him celebrate!
