Roadtrip: Fish On!

Posted on October 1, 2017September 30, 2017

Finished up our time at the antique fair… Visited a meadery… Drove to the coast! Spent the day on the water with my sister, nephews, and their girlfriends… and caught that red fish my brother insisted I bring home to him.  Sorry, brother, it turned into ceviche for tomorrow!

Counting Down

Posted on September 25, 2017September 24, 2017

It’s late and the big day is tomorrow… bright and early!  I’m not quite packed… and I’m practically nauseous from getting ready to leave for two weeks. First of all, I’m not good at abandoning ship when there’s work to be done… here at home and the library… Second… it’s a long long long long…

Wanderers

Posted on September 24, 2017September 23, 2017

For a couple of weeks now, it’s not unusual to hear elk bugling in our fields at night… We don’t see them, but we sure love listening to them. Today, with all the rain… a couple of cows and a calf just wandered by…

Guesses

Posted on September 22, 2017September 21, 2017

#tbt is on hold… And I have exciting news to share… Monday I’m going on vacation!  Yes, like a REAL vacation!  I’ve been to librarians’ conventions… and there were those trips to get my custom cowboy hat… but I haven’t been gone for longer than a couple of nights for many, many years. Where am…

Rainstorm

Posted on September 20, 2017September 19, 2017

Two months of drought… and now rainstorm after rainstorm! 1.92″ and all of that in the past few days. I set out my GoPro… the skies were dramatic and a storm was blowing in.  Perfect for a time lapse.  But once again, my memory fails me and I’ve been sitting here trying to figure out…

Salsa

Posted on September 19, 2017September 18, 2017

28 pints of salsa later (plus 3 pints of tomato sauce)… I’m done. Except for all those tomatoes on the vine under the big blue tarp… ugh.  I’m almost to the point of letting the frost take them… but I know I will just can some plain ol’ tomatoes when they’re ripe. But not today!…

Enter Freeze Warnings

Posted on September 17, 2017September 16, 2017

Blessed by rain… And now enter the cold front and freeze warnings!  There is snow on the mountain. My tomatoes are covered, the ripe ones harvested… My windows are steamed from the heat of my salsa making endeavours. My Black Prince tomatoes are delicious, but their black color looks “off” when made into salsa… I…

Rain Days

Posted on September 16, 2017

Finally. Rain. Lots of it.  An inch and a half as of this writing… which is great moisture for a dry steppe country like Wyoming. Rain days are vacation days for ranchers… go to town on a rainy day, and you’ll see your neighbors.  We were going to be prepping for preg testing on Saturday……

Carol, Wyoming rancher

Since 2008, I’ve kept this photographic journal of life on our working Wyoming ranch.  I share ranch work, my family, crafts and DIY, my English Shepherds, Bravo and Indy, and a love for this land.  Enjoy this red dirt country!
