Rain Days

Posted on September 16, 2017

Finally. Rain. Lots of it.  An inch and a half as of this writing… which is great moisture for a dry steppe country like Wyoming. Rain days are vacation days for ranchers… go to town on a rainy day, and you’ll see your neighbors.  We were going to be prepping for preg testing on Saturday……

A Little Wet

Posted on September 13, 2017September 12, 2017

We will be weaning tomorrow… and in preparation, we water down the corrals.  Dust can be your enemy when calves, already stressed from leaving their mothers, breathe all that dust into their lungs.  They can easily get sick… and, possibly, die. This time of year, especially this year… Wyoming *is* Dust. The corrals at home…

The Big Tipi

Posted on September 11, 2017September 10, 2017

Another adventure… This time to Lost Cabin, Wyoming for a tour of The Big Tipi, aka J.B. Okie’s mansion.  Known as the Sheep King of Central Wyoming, he was an intelligent businessman with big plans. I’ve driven past this house FOREVER… Well, ever since I’ve been married… and have wondered about it.  I’ve wanted to…

#TBT: Sex in the Country, Revisited

Posted on September 8, 2017September 7, 2017

So, it’s been quiet and just “different” without Dally around.  As her Guard Dog position warranted, she was Number One Barker to alert me when anyone drove by… even Brandon… six times a day… Lucas and Eden are MUCH quieter without her. You think you see her… running along the fence… sneaking behind the couch…

Dancing Man Cave

Posted on September 4, 2017September 4, 2017

A holiday.  Like a REAL holiday on an ACTUAL holiday!  Wooohooo! Thanks to the arrival of Vernon’s sister and brother-in-law from California, and Victoria, et al, from Kaycee… we took a real day off (ok, so there WAS some irrigating involved) and revisited a site we must have visited about 28 years ago… Yeah, my…

Carol, Wyoming rancher

Since 2008, I’ve kept this photographic journal of life on our working Wyoming ranch.  I share ranch work, my family, crafts and DIY, my English Shepherds, Bravo and Indy, and a love for this land.  Enjoy this red dirt country!
