Creativity Help

Posted on April 5, 2010January 9, 2015

Easter Egg- Part Two

Posted on April 4, 2010January 9, 2015

When I begin an egg for pysanky, I might have a general idea of what I want… Traditional styles… or not. Traditional colors… or not. Sometimes I want to try something new. Like art deco styles… Wonderful end designs… Amazing bands of art deco swirls and integrated designs. My plan… Simple green and white. No…

Questions and Answers- April Edition

Posted on April 3, 2010March 26, 2015

Here they are… your questions *hopefully* answered by me! SARA: How old are some of your cows? ANSWER:  Cows usually start breaking or losing their teeth around 7 or 8 years of age.  They are then called “broken mouth cows”.  As it worsens, they have a harder time eating and do poorer.  Since we don’t…

What’s in Front

Posted on April 2, 2010January 9, 2015

Today was incremental in its rise in temperature… but the sun was out, and though the slight breeze held a chill, people and calves both appreciated the lack of wet snow coming down sideways!  This was a WET snow, and as it slowly retreated throughout the day, sure enough, the green grass below it is…

Blooming Snow

Posted on April 1, 2010January 9, 2015

Sure enough, it is almost Easter… and so a snowstorm has hit!  I went to Worland tonight to a Pet First Aid Class… and decided to take this photo of our mailbox as I drove in just half an hour ago.  Though we only have 3 inches or so on the ground, it does look…

Identity Theft

Posted on March 30, 2010January 9, 2015

Remember Half-Pint? She’s the tiny little twin we’ve been bottle feeding. Today, we found her a new mommy.  Unfortunately, that meant another calf died… one we’d doctored for scours (severe diarrhea) and he eventually succumbed.  But life on a ranch isn’t easy and we know that.  Turning a misfortune into a lucky game is the…

OCDog

Posted on March 29, 2010January 9, 2015

You know these guys… the main players of Rimrock English Shepherds… Lucas.  Dally.  Elsa.  Or what my family calls them… “The Brown Dogs”… a reference to their sable color – even though we know Dally is a tri – a small detail to my spouse and children. Then there is “The Black Dog”. Boomer. Australian…

Craig Johnson

Posted on March 28, 2010March 26, 2015

Yesterday I went to see a special visitor at the Ten Sleep Library. His name is Craig Johnson and he is the author of five books.  The sixth, Junkyard Dogs, is due out in May. When his first book came out, entitled The Cold Dish, I remember thinking “This guy *understands* Wyoming!”  At the time I was still working…

Picnic

Posted on March 27, 2010January 9, 2015

I have lost power twice in the past 30 minutes… ugh. So tonight’s entry is short and sweet in order that it *finally* can be published! We went on a picnic this afternoon… with our winter coats on and snowbanks in the shadows of the junipers… but a good enough Wyoming spring day for us!…

Antler Hunting

Posted on March 26, 2010January 9, 2015

For those of us with “cabin fever” … these fleeting springlike days are great temptations to get OUT… OUT of our jobs, our houses, our ruts… and hike in temperatures higher than 20 degrees… with no knee deep mud… or knee deep snow. We can walk and see what the winter brought and is leaving…

Carol, Wyoming rancher

Since 2008, I’ve kept this photographic journal of life on our working Wyoming ranch.  I share ranch work, my family, crafts and DIY, my English Shepherds, Bravo and Indy, and a love for this land.  Enjoy this red dirt country!
