Posted on July 10, 2009March 25, 2015

Then there are the troublemakers… Lucas and Elsa have success! Lucas makes it to Bruner Draw… and goes looking for a mud puddle… he’s overheating and tired already….

A Plea for Dana

Posted on July 2, 2009December 29, 2014

I was recently contacted by a woman in Moses Lake, Washington. Her husband has been diagnosed with terminal multiple myeloma and they will no longer be able to run cattle or their ranch. She is desperately seeking a new home for Dana. Dana is out of Elsa… but the father is Dubya, both owned at…

If Wishes Were Horses…

Posted on June 27, 2009December 29, 2014

Although my wish for the day would have been to attend a stockdog clinic… in Pavillion, Wyoming (2.5 hours away) from Elvin Kopp (his website is here)… instead we took half our cows to our mesa pasture. When I first heard about the clinic, I knew the date would be iffy… But just once… I’d…

Picnic Photos

Posted on June 22, 2009December 29, 2014

Before I share more Wyoma stories, I thought I’d share a few more photos from our Father’s Day picnic yesterday. Another of my favorite flowers is in bloom. It is called Bitterroot. Often associated with Montana, bitterroot was a Native American staple… and even helped feed the Lewis and Clark expedition.  It does have to…

Dogs in Heaven

Posted on June 18, 2009November 24, 2014

I would never presume to understand a dog. I want to. I read books by educated people and scientists and behaviorists and I try to. The closest I’ve been is the other day… for a short period of time, at least. I watched five dogs on the mountain have a tremendous day. They dug holes…

Nick and Molly

Posted on June 2, 2009December 29, 2014

Dally’s brother came for a visit the other day… Nick, who belongs to Kristie Crump of Gillette, Wyoming came with her daughter Lee Ann Brown.  Lee Ann is the new proud owner of Molly. Got that??? Mother/daughter now own full siblings (from different litters). As soon as they drove up and I saw the dog…

What Are Cowdogs Good For?

Posted on May 24, 2009December 20, 2014

What are cowdogs good for? They are great for going down to the creek to kick the cows back out into the badlands. They are awesome at going up hillsides to kick cows back out into the badlands. They easily handle the ones brushed up in the shade to remind them to go back out…

Puppy Walk part two

Posted on May 23, 2009December 20, 2014

The other day I began the story of our Puppy Walk with a great shot of their faces as 10 pups scampered cross country.  *But* to be honest, I saw more butts than faces!  They enjoyed themselves immensely!  I took them on a walk to burn more puppy energy.  Their early morning fight had cost…
