Video Time

Posted on August 16, 2021August 17, 2021

Finally! Another video! It’s about time! This one covers May 30 – June 20, 2021. There’s plenty of gathering cattle, a cute irrigation partner, and some elk on the Big Horns. I even included a blooper reel, when my contacts were so foggy riding, that I had to have Megan help me clean and reapply…

Summer Crafts

Posted on August 15, 2021August 15, 2021

A little crafting… I generally don’t do much crafting in the summer, it seems like there are other things calling for my attention. However, the wedding yesterday called for a present. Part of it was a set of four stemless wine glasses that I etched with their brand. Their brand is the “quarter circle J…

Love Ya To The Moon and Back

Posted on August 14, 2021August 14, 2021

Morning work with a full crew… four kids, four adults… oh, and me! It’s a work in progress… getting everyone situated. Riding that fine line between fun, serious work, safety, horsemanship, and stockmanship. No, we can’t run our horses through here, it’s too rocky. Stay here and turn the cows if they come this way….

Mountain Day

Posted on August 13, 2021August 13, 2021

Riding along in the mountain pasture… giving Bravo some much needed work on becoming a cow dog. Blue skies have been with us lately, the smoke lessening a bit and some slightly cooler weather… though today did end up hot enough (high 80’s?)… and when we drove DOWN the mountain, the Big Horn Basin was…

#TBT : “I’ll Be Fine!”, v.2.0

Posted on August 12, 2021August 12, 2021

This was first published August 12, 2010. The thing about moving cows up the mountain at first light… sunlight gives your photos that glaring-gotta-squint look.   The golden-dried-grass-dusty haze spreads its aura.     Then the romance disappears…   Panama throws a shoe… and limps along the road.   Fine.   I’m off and leading…

Chokecherry Recipes

Posted on August 10, 2021August 10, 2021

I’ve had successes and failures with these recipes, but… if I’m trying to make chokecherry jelly and I fail… it’s just chokecherry syrup! If all my jelly actually makes jelly… then I’ve been known to microwave a jar and turn it into syrup. Can you tell I like my chokecherry syrup? Follow all canning instructions…

Ten Things You May Not Know About… Chokecherries

Posted on August 9, 2021August 9, 2021

I do read all my comments and since a couple of you asked about chokecherries… here ya go! Prunus virginiana. Also called bitter-berry or Virginia bird berry. Found in thickets alongside water or damp areas across the U.S. and Canada. While usually shrub sized, it can grow into a tree up to 30′ tall. Part…

Canyon Memories

Posted on August 7, 2021August 7, 2021

That’s Tess on the left, finishing another half marathon. She ran this one in Ten Sleep Canyon last year too, but this time I actually got to see her finish! Jaxon, Lacee, and Reagan were there as well, having spent the night at my house to avoid an even earlier morning rush. Afterwards, I had…

Back to It

Posted on August 6, 2021August 6, 2021

We’ve had a short break from moving cattle… filling our time with haying (cutting, baling, and stacking) and irrigating (without which there’d be nothing to bale) and working on water projects. Today, though, we were on horseback once again. This is rocky, rocky country. Up in the corner of the pasture is what we call…

#TBT: Piggysitting Part Poo… Uh, Two… v.2.0

Posted on August 5, 2021August 5, 2021

This was first posted August 6, 2010. So I admit it…I know nothing about pigs. We were given one for an early wedding present… his name was Amos.  I believe Vernon really hated hauling him to the processing plant… but I hadn’t been around him much.  I patted him on the head like three times……

Carol, Wyoming rancher

Since 2008, I’ve kept this photographic journal of life on our working Wyoming ranch.  I share ranch work, my family, crafts and DIY, my English Shepherds, Bravo and Indy, and a love for this land.  Enjoy this red dirt country!
