Freeze Coming

Posted on September 7, 2020September 7, 2020

Wyoming remembered how to rain today. Saturday I was sweating while I was covering my tomatoes… yesterday was cooler and windy… right now it’s raining and 37 degrees, so snow will be here overnight. I had some old floor underlayment… the cushioned foamy stuff under flooring. I wondered if it would help protect the tomatoes…

Re-Red: August 22 – August 29, 2020

Posted on September 6, 2020September 6, 2020

This video covers our anniversary trip up to Shell, Wyoming with visits to the Shell Store, Shell Canyon, and Shell Falls. Fasten your seatbelt when I fast forward you through the switchbacks coming back down! Next follows Daniel cutting the sor-dan… an impressive crop! A few slow motion birds… a harvest… and our big trip…

Forecast

Posted on September 5, 2020September 5, 2020

While it was in the high 90’s today… Tuesday’s high is forecasted to be only 40. Yes, you read that right. So, even though the plan is to cover my garden, it still may not make it. Today, I put the grandkids to work, picking corn, shucking, and picking the silk while I sliced the…

Grossness

Posted on September 4, 2020September 4, 2020

I debated about sharing this… It’s gross. It made me say some bad words. So, if you’re not interested in unsavory medical anomalies, maybe you should just skip this post and I’ll see you tomorrow. Here’s your chance. See ya later… OK. Three and a half months ago, Daniel tipped over his four wheeler. Thank…

#TBT: Mountain OOPE, v.2.0

Posted on September 3, 2020September 3, 2020

This was first posted September 3, 2009. My collection of OOPE photos continues to grow. I’ve always just stuck the camera in my pocket (hence the Out Of Pocket Experience title!)…but when it is 90 degrees outside…a coat or sweatshirt with pockets just doesn’t cut it! For those of you new to the OOPE photos……

Petroglyph Proof

Posted on September 1, 2020September 1, 2020

After our trip back in to history to the Lewis homestead cabin, we went even farther back in history with a side trip to petroglyphs. Just like The Dugout, I have written about the petroglyphs before. You might want to click through and read the link first. I was wondering how they were holding up…

Re-Red: August 16 – August 21, 2020

Posted on August 31, 2020August 31, 2020

Wow. This video is the compilation of the week August 16-21, 2020, for Wyoming’s working ranch blog, Red Dirt In My Soul. Obviously, I can’t read a calendar lately. Last week’s Re-Red movie went two days into this week, and I just realized I am a day short on this video. My goodness. I must…

Whisper of Dreams

Posted on August 30, 2020August 30, 2020

Well, sorry. I didn’t make a Re-Red today. It takes at least two hours and I didn’t have time. I will try to put one together tomorrow. We took another trip, this one, however, has been in the works for a few years. Vernon’s cousins have wanted to visit their old family homestead. It sold…

Sor-dan

Posted on August 29, 2020August 29, 2020

This was Daniel on June 27. After our first cutting of hay was off the pivot field, he went back in and no-till drilled in some sorghum-sudangrass hybrid seeds. No-till means just that. No tilling. No plowing, discing, or leveling of the field back to bare dirt. The planter (aka a ‘drill’) has small discs…

Shell Canyon and Falls

Posted on August 29, 2020August 29, 2020

Shell Canyon, like I mentioned on the other day’s blog post, has a great deal in common with Ten Sleep Canyon. Massive walls, creek in the bottom, winding, twisting, switchback roads. Shell Canyon’s Highway 14 is narrower than Ten Sleep’s Highway 16. More semi’s travel over Ten Sleep… and you’ll understand why when I include…

#TBT: “Fifteen Years Ago…”, v.2.0

Posted on August 27, 2020August 27, 2020

Yesterday my friends arrived from New Zealand. A. and her husband, V. Now… as some of you may know… time sure flies by…. A. and I worked together at a place once known as Girl Scout National Center West. It was the ultimate camp for Girl Scouts back then… much like the Boy Scouts’ Philmont….
