Making Memories

Posted on November 24, 2019November 24, 2019

A day off… kinda. Vernon said he was going to haul hay as long as the ground remained frozen… as it thaws, you start rutting up the road. As it turned out, he managed to haul hay until noon. That gave me time to clean up from yesterday’s big birthday celebration for Victoria’s twin boys….

#TBT: Out of Pocket, v.2.0

Posted on November 21, 2019November 21, 2019

This post first appeared November 20, 2008. You ever heard the term, “She is out of pocket.”?  Basically it means someone is unavailable, out of touch, gone, removed.  That was me today… at least in one sense.  We worked our heifers, so I had to cancel Lucas’ reading session at school.  Waaah.  Oh, well. On…

Testing

Posted on November 19, 2019November 19, 2019

It was the bulls’ day today… checking their fertility and taking samples for trichomoniasis. Perhaps not the most comfortable of tests… but haven’t most of us experienced something uncomfortable in a doctor’s office? I know… shocking. Sorry, guy… but ‘trich’ is nothing to fool with! For those of you wanting to read more… here are…

Wolf Returns

Posted on November 18, 2019November 18, 2019

Remember the 4th of July Parade? When my friend, KJ, and I built this float for one of our favorite local authors? We made a big ol’ wolf coming out of his most recent book since it *is* called Land of Wolves. Plus, we had fun adding “library stuff” to the book like a backtag…

Gnomies

Posted on November 17, 2019November 17, 2019

After those vintage trailer rocks, I had to try my hand at making a few of those popular gnome figures. I like the trailers better, but these guys can still be my gnomies… Question: do you prefer them to be magnets or hanging ornaments?

What To Do?

Posted on November 15, 2019November 15, 2019

Today, we went and picked up our new-to-us dining table and chairs. It’s much darker than the other woods we have, a rich “almost cherry”… about as far from the beat up, blonde, 1950’s table and buffet we inherited when we moved into this house. Everything is sturdy and solid. I really like them… but……

#TBT: “Ooohhh… Wyoming Wind, v.2.0”

Posted on November 14, 2019November 14, 2019

This post was originally written November 14, 2008. Tucked away as we are, sheltered from traffic and people and other disturbances, it still comes as a shock when the infamous Wyoming Wind blows.  Now I basically grew up in Casper, Wyoming (since I was 12), and it is famous for its wind.  Gusts in the…

Vintage Trailers

Posted on November 12, 2019November 12, 2019

What is it about those 1950’s trailers, repainted and repurposed instead of sitting abandoned… I love ‘em… So… grab some perfectly shaped cobbles from the creek, wash ‘em, and start painting! Aren’t they cuuuuuuuute? And I like those old pickups, too…

Carol, Wyoming rancher

Since 2008, I’ve kept this photographic journal of life on our working Wyoming ranch.  I share ranch work, my family, crafts and DIY, my English Shepherds, Bravo and Indy, and a love for this land.  Enjoy this red dirt country!
