Shaky Celebration

Posted on November 4, 2017

Best laid plans… Victoria was ready to come celebrate her birthday here… But poor little Waylon’s tummy had different ideas.  I’m really sorry it didn’t work out, so I have to wish her Happy Birthday long distance… We carried on with the first official sled day at my house… Later, inside, as I was sipping…

Big Snow

Posted on November 3, 2017

This photo makes it look like my windmill is entirely buried.  It isn’t.  We did have 8″ though!  Lots of cow work happening today in the neighborhood, but I’m headed to the warm library.

Halloween Visit

Posted on November 1, 2017October 31, 2017

Happy Halloween! We were visited by a vampire bat, Dusty Crophopper, and the puppy versions of Tuff and Jekyll. Ten Sleep is a great place for Halloween!

Cool Cowboys

Posted on October 31, 2017

Guaranteed to happen: Work outside in the cold (22˚ this morning). Ride, walk, work the gate sorting cattle – back and forth, back and forth. Ride some more. Stand around, cooling off and getting stiff, but talking with neighbors and buyers. Go home. Drink two cups of hot chocolate. Finally make supper. Eat. Tip over….

Mooving

Posted on October 30, 2017

It’s time to bring the cows down off of our mid-range Mesa Pasture before this next snowstorm hits.  Yesterday they brought some from a different pasture to this one, but today we take them all the rest of the way. Along for the ride?  Quinlan!  Yup, he’s riding one of the little ponies. Also there……

My Project

Posted on October 29, 2017October 28, 2017

Well, my little project started about a year ago, when I bought the landscape bricks on sale.  It was too late in the year for yard work and then all summer I’ve looked at the pile and kept thinking “someday”. Well, “someday” finally came along and I set the bricks under one of my big…

Done With That Project

Posted on October 28, 2017

It’s only been a few days… but the guys finished up the new stackyard fence today.  They were hanging the last gate as I arrived to take this photo. Six feet tall with woven wire to deter deer and other wildlife… half the size it was… with two metal gates. (and phenomenally straight lines!) Done…

Our Western Star

Posted on October 27, 2017October 26, 2017

I had a busy and FULL day of work (19 kids at the after school program!!!!), then I jumped in the Jeep and drove an hour to go see a friend at the Hot Springs County Library in Thermopolis. My readers should know him by now, but just in case you’ve forgotten, it’s New York…

Stackyard

Posted on October 25, 2017October 24, 2017

The guys are working on a project.  Since, I guess, the beginning of Greet Ranch, you’ve been met with a haystack as you drive into our place.  It’s also become the repository of some old equipment and a humongous pile of used baling twine and the rotting corpses of old straw bales.  Since the fence…
