Cold Calf on a Cold Day

Posted on March 1, 2014

At first thought, I worried Brandon had run over a dog… then I realized!  He was walking into my house with a newborn calf in his arms!  Movie forgotten, Victoria, I, and the twins descended onto her to warm her up. It was cold outside, the weather has dropped to zero and a few degrees…

Red Black Angus

Posted on February 27, 2014

The newest rage on the Upper Nowood, red mud plaster masks!  Guaranteed to make your eyes stand out!  Scratch that itch!   Be cool! Whatever the reason, many of our heifers had indeed plastered themselves with red mud…  They won’t be doing it again anytime soon, a Big Winter Storm is on the way. Victoria and…

Even Better

Posted on February 25, 2014

I want your sympathy.  It’s -5˚ outside, with the 3″ of new snow on the ground (on top of whatever was there!), and I’ve left my camera in the car!  I had to blast to Worland to give a speech to a group at the Worland Library and finally got home at 9 pm. There’s…

Wool Headband

Posted on February 24, 2014

A few weeks ago, I started my latest wool project.  When the wind blows and that cold goes rushing by your ears, you become a fan of whatever can cover your ears!  For years I”ve carried a simple earband in my Carhartt pocket.  Just a smidge different, it was long enough to go OVER my…

Hermit

Posted on February 23, 2014

It was one of these days. If the roads are nasty, then we’re probably headed somewhere… Today it was Cody, where our pickup had an appointment for early tomorrow morning.  I would have delayed the trip, but in 5 days or so, our heifers will really be calving, and getting time to drive that far,…

Bee Adventurous – My Helper

Posted on February 22, 2014

I thought you might enjoy this quick video of Lucas and my new top bar beehive. I was seated on a log… just watching the bees go in and out of their entrance holes.  There were just a few dozen of them, none of which was paying any attention to either of us.  Lucas decided…

At 60 MPH

Posted on February 18, 2014

Picture yourself zipping down the highway and you glance at a neighbor’s corrals. There he is again!  Standing on top of the fence!  Boy, that horse has great balance! Well… maybe not. But you can see how, at 60 mph, that first glance makes you do a double take!
