Farm Collie

Posted on August 27, 2024

Bravo urging on a calf. I’m usually aware of dogs in photographs, especially English Shepherd types. I am reading a local history book as my “Wyoming” book for this month’s Pronghorn Reads Challenge. That’s a statewide monthly reading challenge promoted by Wyoming Humanities. It’s a good little book, full of bits and pieces that are…

Fires

Posted on August 26, 2024

196,000 acres. Over 300 square miles. That’s the Remington Fire that started in Wyoming and made a run into Montana over fourteen miles in one night. Then there’s the House Draw Fire. 174,000 acres. They shut down Interstate 25 for that one by Buffalo and Sheridan. The Flat Rock Fire and the Constitution Fire near…

Escape

Posted on August 25, 2024

With tons of cow work headed our way, I chose to escape to the mountains before it all starts… and with views like this, can you blame me?

Historical Photo: Branding 1950’s?

Posted on August 22, 2024

While sorting through the pile of photos, it seems as if the ones printed like this were about the 1950’s era. I don’t recognize this round corral. Obviously, this was in the day of Hereford cattle. So many things are still the same… I don’t recognize the brand… does anyone know of the R3 brand?

An Answer to a Question

Posted on August 20, 2024

Many of you liked the historical photo I posted of Edna, especially the one with the gun on her hip. Well, today, while cooling off from lawn work in the ‘90* heat, I was sorting photos and came across this photo in the Worland newspaper. That little article clears up a few questions…

More Photos

While Vernon worked on the mountain, I had plans to mow on my yard or check out my garden… but it was HOT. My riding lawnmower is out of commission and the parts haven’t even shipped yet (one week later – c’mon Cub Cadet!). And running my push mower wasn’t appealing. I headed inside, did…

Right In Front of Me

Posted on August 18, 2024

When you’re standing around for a few hours, you don’t have much opportunity to take varied photos… but in front of me was a team… Lorelei would come help me move a pen of calves and then stay and talk with Vernon. Heaven knows what they talked about. They were keeping a close eye on…

Brilliant Day

Posted on August 17, 2024

Back to the mountain. The entire crew was present. Calves were vaccinated up front by Daniel and Megan (supervised by Reagan) and loaded in the chute by Quinlan and Brandon… Vernon and Lorelei were in charge of the first pen, and me in the second pen. The large pen was Tess, Jaxon, and Lacee. It…
