I’m Baaaaaack!

Posted on November 24, 2008December 18, 2014

Did you miss me??? I apologize for not posting yesterday, but I really was “out of pocket”!  I left Saturday morning, drove 2 hours, met up with the guys at a bull sale for a brief update, they’d picked out the bull they wanted, but the sale hadn’t started yet.  I then drove another hour…

OOPE 2 Fave

Posted on November 22, 2008April 3, 2015

After my hands unfroze and we arrived back at our barn yesterday… I snapped this.  My father-in-law is feeding the horses some hay. I’ve just turned Tart loose out the main door.  It is a nice old barn…and would be lots nicer if someone would rechink all those holes.  It just doesn’t seem to be…

OOPE 2

Posted on November 21, 2008April 3, 2015

Yesterday I started the Out Of Pocket Experience where you come along on a working day with me… and I take photos as I slave away with the camera winking out of my pocket.  No focus, no framing, nothing artistic in evidence.  I don’t have time for that, I’m WORKING!  Today we finished up the…

Out of Pocket

Posted on November 20, 2008April 3, 2015

You ever heard the term, “She is out of pocket.”?  Basically it means someone is unavailable, out of touch, gone, removed.  That was me today… at least in one sense.  We worked our heifers, so I had to cancel Lucas’ reading session at school.  Waaah.  Oh, well. On the other hand, we got to ride…

Old Girl – One Last Time, Honest!

Posted on November 19, 2008November 24, 2014

I know my tipi has been the focus lately and though it isn’t a part of REGULAR RANCHLIFE, hey, this blog is about MY RANCHLIFE, and most people don’t know about tipis, so I consider this an educational opportunity!  I really hate losing those “teachable moments”, so bear with me.  I did shrink the photos,…

Spurs

Posted on November 18, 2008December 30, 2014

Up at our new place… we call it the Mills place… is this sight.  Roy Mills, patriarch of RM Ranch, saddled his horse to go check his cows, leaving his spurs behind on the gate post.  Hours later his wife noticed the riderless horse standing next to his master.  It was assumed he’d had a…

Old Girl – Overs

Posted on November 17, 2008November 24, 2014

I wanted to share how my love affair with tipis began.  That’s me, the little blondie playing in front of a tipi that my mom and dad made.  Yup.  They made it.  Daddy went to a powwow somewhere outside of Durango, Colorado.  He was so impressed with all the tipis, he came home and drew…

A little color

Posted on November 15, 2008December 30, 2014

I did it.  I walked out to the mailbox and back, a total of two whole miles!  But I didn’t hit a wall… I made my destination and back!  Five weeks after numerous blood clots in my lungs, I can breathe enough and have enough energy to do what before was a quick hike for…

Ooohhh… Wyoming Wind

Posted on November 14, 2008December 30, 2014

Tucked away as we are, sheltered from traffic and people and other disturbances, it still comes as a shock when the infamous Wyoming Wind blows.  Now I basically grew up in Casper, Wyoming (since I was 12), and it is famous for its wind.  Gusts in the 50’s and 60’s aren’t unusual. For simple fun…

Snow lodge

Posted on November 13, 2008April 3, 2015

Sigh.  Guess what.  I didn’t succeed at getting my tipi down.   So there she sets waiting for sunshine.  Which may not come for a while.  It has rained and snowed and the wind is currently howling outside.  I hope the weather improves because I don’t want to leave her out all winter.  I did…

Green leaves and snow

Posted on November 12, 2008November 29, 2014

Wyoming usually has to remind us, quite early, that winter is on the way.  In October we had our first snow.  The cottonwoods hadn’t even dropped their leaves, or changed color for that matter!  In November, the biggest storm magically appears as kids are coming home for Thanksgiving break.  December brings storms in stages.  January…

Carol, Wyoming rancher

Since 2008, I’ve kept this photographic journal of life on our working Wyoming ranch.  I share ranch work, my family, crafts and DIY, my English Shepherds, Bravo and Indy, and a love for this land.  Enjoy this red dirt country!
