Canyon Dogs

Posted on August 13, 2009January 1, 2015

On our trips to the canyon, my shadows have come along. That’s standard protocol for my life… If ever I’m lost… Just look for my English Shadows… they’ll be close! The past few days have been separated between the girls and Lucas since Elsa has come into heat. Lucas on the first day of our…

Late Branding

Posted on August 11, 2009January 1, 2015

Usually our neighbors brand before we ever do… Johnny has always let the calves grow a little before stressing them with a branding. When I first arrived on the scene here… our calves were much smaller… and we waited until July to brand them. Now that we raise Angus… our calves are huge by July!…

Back to the Lost World

Posted on August 10, 2009January 1, 2015

We went back to the Lost World again today… The main focus for today was lowering the electrical conduit down the side of the canyon to connect our new 1.5 horse pump (which will be in the bottom next to our ram pump) to our generator (which will be on top). The plan was for…

Lost World

Posted on August 9, 2009January 1, 2015

Yesterday I left off where I had entered the Lost World of Otter Creek Canyon… Within the few minutes (actual time) of leaving the top of the steep canyon where sagebrush blooms alongside cedars and mule’s ears and prickly pear make their appearances as garnishes… we end up here… An entirely different ecosystem. Full of…

New Project Defined

Posted on August 8, 2009January 1, 2015

The Project actually was started about a month ago… Written in bits and pieces on scrap paper and time spent on the internet researching and on phone calls ordering and questioning. Until about a week ago when production started on a water tank… (One thing about ranchers… they are great at recycling… way before any…

The New Project

Posted on August 7, 2009January 1, 2015

If someone… who knew ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about ranching… were to ask me… “What is your lifestyle like out in the middle of nowhere?  Do you round-up cattle everyday like on television?” After I caught my breath from laughing and choking on my own spit I would have to say, “Uh, no…” And then I would…

Hot – the book

Posted on August 6, 2009December 19, 2014

It is an amazing collection of astounding artistic photos of Antarctica… Enough alliteration for you??? SIX THOUSAND copies sold and counting. This…

Photo Improvements

Posted on August 4, 2009January 1, 2015

Marilyn was nice enough yesterday to leave a comment about my photos… And that got me to thinking… I couldn’t do this without taking multiple and I mean, MULTIPLE photos… Especially what I call OOPE photos… The ones I’m NOT supposed to be taking because I’m supposed to be WORKING, not playing photographer. The ones…

Another Day of Riding

Posted on August 3, 2009January 1, 2015

We moved 100 pairs today from the Mesa to a new pasture leased from a neighbor… It was mainly me and Daniel and Brandon and S., our neighbor girl. Vernon and Johnny took the bulls back down to our bull pasture. Brandon discovered the pains (literally) of riding a colt… with a couple of nice…

STUPID People

Posted on August 2, 2009January 1, 2015

I’m not really sure if I should title this entry STUPID People, IGNORANT People, or MEANSPIRITED MISLED BLANKETY BLANK People. I always heard it was better to be ignorant… that just meant you didn’t know better… but that you could learn or change… Like if I went to New York City and someone asked me…

Carol, Wyoming rancher

Since 2008, I’ve kept this photographic journal of life on our working Wyoming ranch.  I share ranch work, my family, crafts and DIY, my English Shepherds, Bravo and Indy, and a love for this land.  Enjoy this red dirt country!
