Feeding What?

Posted on December 27, 2008December 2, 2014

I have always enjoyed identifying birds, tracks, animals, plants, trees… whatever seems to cross my path.  I was VERY frustrated on my cruise last year… asking locals what the names of the trees were and they would simply say, “I don’t know.”  I don’t like that.  I try to know what things are!  Now I…

Flat Light

Posted on December 26, 2008December 2, 2014

If you live in snow country, you know what Flat Light is.  It is the inability to distinguish depth because the light is flat and doesn’t reflect normally in order for your eyes to perceive contrast and shadows.  Flat Light comes with cloudy skies, snow falling, and snow on the ground.  Watch ski races, and…

Blessings

Posted on December 24, 2008April 3, 2015

As I sat down to write this earlier… my youngest son called.  It was after 11 pm. He had run off the road was the jist of his sporadic cell phone call.  “Come pull me out.  Bring a flashlight.” I understood that much and went and woke up Vernon.  Daniel was in the shower and…

Feeding Hay 201

Posted on December 23, 2008April 3, 2015

For years we have fed on two different ranches… ours and the one we lease from a neighbor.  It helps keep cows/newborn calves separate, just in case someone gets ill and wants to spread it… plus it is easier on the fields and creek to spread the cattle out.  I’ve shared many pics of us…

Gathering Calves OOPE

Posted on December 22, 2008December 21, 2014

Today it almost reached 40 degrees!  A 70 degree improvement over the other morning.  Gotta love Wyoming.  Since the weather was nice, we decided we’d better kick more calves up to the feed ground before the weather dropped off or snowed more.  Off to the fields went Brandon, Vernon, and I. My partner for the…

Winter Solstice – OOPE

Posted on December 21, 2008November 22, 2014

FINALLY!  The shortest day of the year has arrived! It is easy to understand why this day was/is celebrated… I feel like throwing a party myself!  The amount of darkness really does make a difference in our lives here… and since Vernon swears he runs on solar power, the idea of longer and brighter days…

My Work

Posted on December 20, 2008April 3, 2015

My Work Lately, my work has included this. Lots of it… buckets to be exact.  And I’m tired of it. I don’t want to see anymore of it. Yecch. and sandpaper… that too! “Begone away!” sigh. It doesn’t seem to be going away.  Daniel says we’re gonna be doing this all winter.  Ha.  He gets…

Almost Christmas

Posted on December 19, 2008April 3, 2015

I was so happy… I had sent out my Christmas cards yesterday… ta-da! lalalalala…  I felt so… so… accomplished.  fulfilled.  complete. Then today I received a Christmas card from one of my puppy buyers.  Don’t get me wrong, I was thrilled to hear from them and how Elle is now a great dog and they…

Progress

Posted on December 18, 2008April 3, 2015

Today I actually made progress!  My Christmas cards are now done.  The tree Vernon and the boys cut for me yesterday is 80% decorated.  A few more Christmas decorations are up.  I actually was well prepared for all my students and classes today!!!  The dogs got a few more bales of straw around their houses…

Posted on December 17, 2008December 20, 2014

Forgive me… I’m playing with photos… wish I could spend more time figuring creative stuff out… but, for heaven’s sake, I haven’t even mailed my Christmas cards! So here… Scenic Wyoming at its best… This is Johnny’s pump house…did I just ruin it for you?  Looks like a quaint tiny log house, but it would…

Another Cold One

Posted on December 16, 2008April 3, 2015

Another day spent in town!  It seems like we’re going to the “big city” quite a bit lately.  For those of you who don’t know… that means Worland, Wyoming.  45 miles away… It takes about an hour to get there. Today was another freezing day, so I might as well have been in a heated…

Carol, Wyoming rancher

Since 2008, I’ve kept this photographic journal of life on our working Wyoming ranch.  I share ranch work, my family, crafts and DIY, my English Shepherds, Bravo and Indy, and a love for this land.  Enjoy this red dirt country!
