Bulloney

Posted on June 17, 2016June 16, 2016

While I was holding the herd the other day… two bulls had a tiff. The went at it, head to head, for about 15 minutes.  They started at one side of the herd, and keep shoving on each other clear to the other side.  It wasn’t loud, or particularly physical, but they kept pressure on…

Wordless Wednesday – “Waiting and Watching”

Posted on June 16, 2016June 15, 2016

Covered in mud from a boggy seep, this is Dally’s version of “Go Lay Down”.

Pooped Pup

Posted on June 15, 2016June 14, 2016

Give me an “Atta, girl!” Rode this morning, pushing those troublesome critters to the next pasture.  There’s more feed over there, that *should* make them happy. Came home for a lunch of leftovers.  Let’s all hear the cheer for Leftovers! Then I decided that I didn’t want to hang around here… sure there’s lawn mowing…

Fence ‘Em In

Posted on June 14, 2016June 13, 2016

“Fences make good neighbors.” We’ve all heard that adage, and when it comes to running livestock, it’s never more true!!! Escapee cows/calves/steers/bulls cost us lots of man hours.  Whether its through neglect, age, wildlife, nature, or just obstinate critters, fences beg for work constantly.  Brandon has been fighting fence and escapees for the past few…

Hay Through My Window

Posted on June 13, 2016June 12, 2016

Over the past few days, I’ve witnessed the haying process right through my dirty kitchen window!  I was “hiding” inside, as the grass pollen and I don’t agree on much… First came Daniel.  He’s a hay cutting man! While not as tall right there, the orchard grass just outside my yard on the other side…

Two

Posted on June 12, 2016June 11, 2016

The guys were called out with the first lightning fires of the season.  It’s awfully early to start fighting fire.  I didn’t venture down to see if I could get a photo or two… But I did take some photos today.  Tess asked me to take some of Lacee for her two year old photos……

Water for Cattle

Posted on June 11, 2016June 10, 2016

Didn’t post last night since I spent the afternoon and evening babysitting for Brandon and Megan.  It was their anniversary, and they deserved a nice night out… I won’t blog any about what I spent most of the day working on myself… just let it be said that 60 year old plumbing is gross and…

Go Lay Down

Posted on June 8, 2016June 7, 2016

“Go Lay Down” A phrase every working dog around here needs to learn… Lucas and Dally have it down pat… Eden needs some work!  I remember Elsa having problems with it, as well, and I guess that gene is in little Eden. When you have gathered a pasture, or moved your herd, you can hold…

Bee Break

Posted on June 7, 2016June 7, 2016

Another day of babysitting, letting Megan ride once again. I cooked the cowboys lunch, and I do believe they were happy it was “just” half a day of riding today!  They’ve been going and going… of course, not that they didn’t work the last half of the day doing something else! After lunch, I caught…

Working Dog

Posted on June 6, 2016June 5, 2016

I opted for babysitting Quinlan and Lorelei today so that Megan could ride.  It helped me get my house cleaner… and lawn watered some… and two loads of laundry finished!  But then, Tess and I took up lunch to the cowboys. I debated.  If they weren’t quite to the Slope Pasture… they could probably use…

More sorting. More trailing… South, this time! More pairing through the gate. And, finally, happy cows…
